I didn't need another gun, but.....
« on: March 25, 2010, 08:45:42 AM »
Last week I questioned the Taurus warranty service though I hadn't had any problems. This week I had to go to Temple to the VA hospital for a checkup and after the long ride and long wait, I took a break and stopped at the local Academy Sports store.  I looked at all their handguns and tried a couple.  I had not handled a Taurus 92 series before and it felt good and at $429, wasn't out of range.  I looked at the PT-101 next which is the same gun in .40 S&W.  It felt good as well and was only $379...BUT WAIT as they say on TV.  The salesman said that the 101 was on sale for $299!  I had to have that one, so I bought it and took it home.  After the long ride, I broke it down and cleaned it and then took it to the range in the pasture.  Wow, is shot straight and accurate.  The trigger pulls were smooth in both double and single action.  The controls were handy so it's easy to operate the safety and decocker and the mag release is out of the way so that there will be no accidental releases.  I now have a new, favorite pistol!

And YOU give Me crap about being a heretic? ;D There is always need (depending on the definition of need ;D). I don't even like Berreta's all that much, but $300 NIB for a Taurus in .40? I'd have a hard time saying no. A good pistol ,and if it wears off the shine, you can always trade it. I say a good deal on a good pistol. You could do a lot worse for twice the money, heck, that's almost kel-tec pricing.

That really is a good price. I've heard both good and bad about the Taurus, Beretta clones. But for that money if you had any issues you could have a good smith tune it up and still be money ahead.  Bill T.

My cousin in law has one in 9mm, and loves it. Nice find.

Great price.

Exactly. They do not make the huge gun safes we all try to fill because we NEED that many guns.
I had a Ruger LCR follow me home one day. Until I handled it in a shop,I did not know I needed a snubbie. Apparently I did.

Good deal on the Taurus semi. I may pick up a 9mm version if the price is right.
