Tooth Paste! WTF?
« on: March 27, 2010, 01:30:09 PM »
Okay, this going to brand me as an official old fart but I need to vent. Its bothered me before, but still, today is the day. I go to the store to buy Crest toothpaste. Nothing fancy, just plain old Crest. You can't do it. There are like nine different varieties ranging from gell, to "sensative teeth" (must be easily offended like Eric ;)) or extra whitening etc. I remember when there were four brands. Crest, Colgate, Aqua-fresh and whatever the store brand was. At what point did people decide they needed 15 different types of tooth paste (in the same brand) to choose from? Some things in life  should be simple, this is one of them. Its like shampoo. I used to buy White Rain because it was the cheapest. No longer, try getting an unscented variety now ::). I mean honestly, in looking at basic hygiene products you should be able to just grab one and go without having to check to see if your tootpaste will taste like cinamon or your shampoo will smell lke strawberries! WTF?

It is a matter of promotional sales. I have a corvette and make you want one. You buy the latest and greatest firearm and now I want to get one. You see it here in the postings of many people here in the different forums.

If you said that you have a plain jane 1966 rambler car - that does not do anything for me. This is the same in the toothpaste, You buy plain jane toothpaste while everyone else wants to be like "the Jones" and buy the scented/flavored brand. One up-manship and it goes on and on. The only scented thing I buy is my aftershave lotion - women like it.

Most marketing in day to day products are aimed at women therefor, don't require much rational thought.

Grow a vagina and it will all make sense somehow!

FQ is encountering some of that "Western decadence" the Soviets used to condemn , how ever they not only had no choice in what style of shoes they bought, they got darn little choice in size.

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

You are so going to be in the doghouse around here with "The Lady" of this house.

Not that I disagree.
