Iowa has finally joined the Shall Issue States for CCW permits.  Also includes reciprocity with other states.  Finally.

Here's hoping the NRA does something useful (if they aren't already doing it). What I'm talking about is hiring a group of smart lawyer's to come up with something like the USCC (US Consumer Code). A piece of voluntary/model legislation that standardizes consumer law. I don't want standardization per se. Just a set of minimum check offs. If you meet this standard, we will reciprocate your permit. It would allow lawmakers to cya and be a voluntary way to hopefully eventual nationwide CCW. It would probably require states like Vermont to offer the option of a course/licence option. But, when the issue of CCW hits the Court in say, 5 to 10 years, it would be nice to argue that 34 states are Shall Issue and respect each other's permits. Why are the residents of the other 16 deprived of this right.?Not sure how I feel about this, just a thought.

I'd complain and say bah-humbug, but every little domino counts toward the time when our state will finally fall. We'll be last, or at least in the last 2.

We've got a couple of bills being heard next week and some other down the line. One defines "just cause" for the issuing authority, one removes the need for just cause for veterans and another creates reciprocity with other states. Any one of those passing would be a tipping point to eventually going shall-issue. I'd guess that we still have another 5 years, but my fingers are crossed.

Hang in there Fuzz, the wind is at our backs on this one, alarmists aside. That said, all it takes is one scumbag pulling a Colombine and we're set back ten years. Stiil, if the 2A is incorporated, I think we will win this one. Just get rid of your Sheriff! The one cool thing (and I use term guardedly) about Ca., is that the standard of issue is in the hands of local SO's. I say cool, because most people don't know or care who their sheriff is, and a rather small amount of money and precinct workers plus a dedicated minority can easily tip the balance. If Orange County, Ca. can't elect a pro-gun Republican,...........

The bill passed both the House and the Senate, but I have yet to hear of our dipstick Governor signing it.  And while it would change us from a may-issue to a shall-issue, it doesn't allow the state to enter into reciprocity agreements, but does open the door for CCW holders from other states to have their permits honored here.  In  other words, out of state permits would be honored in Iowa, but they won't enter into any agreements for our permits to be good in other states.  I don't understand why they're afraid of reciprocity, but what can I say?

So, as I understand it, if this law is signed m58 will be able to carry at my house, but I won't be able to carry at his.
I love waking up every morning knowing that Donald Trump is President!!

IOWA:  Governor Culver's Signature Still Needed to Make Iowa a "Shall Issue" State!  Time is running out for Governor Culver (D) to sign Senate File 2379, and anti-gun forces are actively urging Governor Culver to VETO the bill.  Senate File 2379 would make Iowa a "shall issue" concealed carry state and would require sheriffs to issue a permit to carry a concealed weapon to all applicants, unless they are subject to certain specific disqualifiers. Senate File 2379 was a huge victory for gun owners in the Hawkeye State but it won't become law without the Governor's support.  Please contact Governor Culver TODAY at (515) 281- 5211 and respectfully urge him to sign this important pro-gun legislation into law.

Is this going to end up being a "pocket veto?"

Remember the Iowa Caucas come election time if this is vetoed.

That sounds too racially one-sided when you say it out loud.....and since changing it to 'Iowa Blackus' won't work because it goes too far in the other direction.....I move it be changed to the 'Iowa Neutralus' for the next election cycle.

Now BTTT, I really hope the Guv'nah signs this thing and finally gets it done for you folks......long time coming.
