Michael...........How's Your Heinie?

 ;D

Just wondering how you are finding the Heinie Tactical Carry pistol from Nighthawk that you are presently reviewing and mentioned on Downrange Radio a couple of weeks ago.  I had the exact same 5" 1911 made by Nighthawk in the form of their Talon but speced out exactly like the Heinie with the exception of the cut and shortened magwell....saved quite a bit of money that way.  I had the Diamond Black (carbon boride) finish applied and have to say I have never seen a better gun finish.  The Heinie Slant Pro Straight Eight night sights are wonderfully intuitive and quick to bring on target.  I find placing a dot on top of another dot far easier and quicker than sights where you need to align three dots horizontally. Personally, I think this is about as good as it gets in a 1911.

I'm going with the new Wilson ETM mags and between the Nighthawk ACT and the Wilson's the gun has yet to have a single FTF with ball and hollowpoints since I received the gun in October.  This Nighthawk has become my everyday carry gun in a Milt Sparks Summer Special II holster.

Just curious of what you think of the Heinie and to hear a bit of your review if available.

The winter here has been so hellish the Heinie/Nighthawk gun is sitting in my safe, waiting for me to brave the elements.

However, Dick did say that if I whined, cried and threw myself on the mercy of Nighthawk, they might let me keep it long enough to use in the Single Stack Classic/USPSA Single Stack Nationals in April (I'm shooting through on Friday, April 25...feel free to join us!).

If I was forced to open my safe and grab one single 1911 to serve me as my only gun the rest of my life, it would be my plain vanilla Heinie .45 built on a Springfield.

PS: I intend to run all Wilson ETMs at the Single Stack!

Thanks for the update Michael...I'm looking forward to your review and your impressions if you get to use the gun in competition in April at the Single Stack.  I can assure you that you will be astounded at this gun's accuracy and ability to quickly acquire the target.  At the range I was able to put three rounds into a single hole at 10 yards offhand and during the same session ran a box of 20 CorBon 230 gr. +P rounds into a hole the size of a quarter at 10 yards, also offhand.  It's the first time I ever kept a target from the range.  An amazing 1911 to say the least.  Even more astounding, it's not only incredibly accurate, it's as reliable a 1911 as you will find.

You're a lucky man Michael to have a 1911 built by Mr. Heinie himself.  As you know, he no longer accepts orders as he is booked up until, from what I hear, he turns 75 years of age....now that's a gunsmith.  So anyone wanting the next best thing will have to go through Nighthawk for their made to Heinie specification version (Heinie Tactical Carry or Heinie PDP).

Michael, I'd love to see some photos of your superb Heinie sometime...............Springfield that is...... ;D
