Old Cell Phone Donations put to good use
« on: April 03, 2010, 08:19:11 PM »
As some of you may be aware old cell phones are often discarded once that new phone comes along. All too often the old phone goes into a box and disappears into the basement or the closet for years to collect dust until one day you find it and through it out with the rest of the garbage or ends up in the $1 bin at the family garage sale. Our church is sending a group of youth to Manassas VA this summer as part of a summer long project sponsored by Group Workcamps Foundation from Ft. Collins CO. As part of our yearly fundraising effort we collect working cell phones that are no longer needed to donate to various charities including Battered Women's Shelters and the local Sheriff's office. In exchange the youth receives credit towards the overall cost of the volunteer efforts we undertake. This year that includes the cost of vehicle rentals, supplies, meals, gas, and camper fees to cover lodging for the week. You can see more info about the project at my website www.bcym.info. If you have old cell phones that are collecting dust that you would like to send us to help us with this effort PM me or email me at natetinstman@me.com. I appreciate all the support you've given me since I joined the forum almost 3 years ago. Of course you can donate locally to similar efforts as well so please don't think I'm trying to take away from those efforts. If you have questions about what we are doing or how this collection effort benefits us contact me any time. Thanks everybody!
