SECOND AMENDMENT RALLY

For Immediate Release

SECOND AMENDMENT MARCH
KANSAS RALLY
APRIL 19, 2010

TOPEKA, Kansas (April 7, 2010) - The Kansas State Second Amendment March coordinator announced today the details for the state event to be held in support of the National Second Amendment March.

The Kansas State Second Amendment March "Rally" will be held Monday, April 19 from 1PM - 3PM on the grounds of the Kansas State Capitol building, located at 300 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, KS. Coordinator Tammy Hane announced the following speakers: Kris Kobach, Law Professor and candidate for Secretary of State, Patricia Stoneking, President of the Kansas State Rifle Association, and Congressman Todd Tiahrt, US Representative from the 4th Congressional District of Kansas, author of the Tiahrt Trace Data Amendment, and candidate for US Senate. Also speaking is the Kansas legislative sponsor for this event, Connie O'Brien, State Representative of the 42nd District.

The Second Amendment March is a national event supported by satellite events at State Capitols and smaller cities across America. The national event will take place Monday, April 19, 2010 from 10am - 4pm on the grounds of the Washington Monument.

To take part in this landmark rally in support of your right to keep and bear arms and to protect and defend the Second Amendment in Kansas, visit  http://www.secondamendmentmarch.com/Kansas. For information on the national Second Amendment March, visit www.secondamendmentmarch.com

Our nation's Founders were specific and mindful of creating an Amendment that provided its citizens with the protections they needed to defend their country, their freedom, their new government and way of life. They understood far too well the grips of tyranny. So, in honor of the minutemen who embarked on a journey to Liberty on this day in history, April 19, 1775, the day these men "...Stood, And Fired The Shot Heard Round The World," we too will take a stand for Liberty.

About Second Amendment March:
The mission of the Second Amendment March is to galvanize the courage and resolve of Americans; to petition our elected officials against establishing anti-gun legislation; and to remind America that the Second Amendment is necessary to maintain our right to self defense.

Kansas:  Castle Doctrine Clean-Up Bill
Moves to Governor's Desk
On Tuesday, March 30, the Kansas State Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 381.  This bill, commonly known as "castle doctrine legislation," would make important corrections to Kansas' current self-defense statute. The bill now moves to the desk of Governor Mark Parkinson (D) for his consideration.

The recent Kansas Supreme Court Ruling in State v. Hendrix stated that if a person threatens force instead of actually using deadly force, the individual is not entitled to a self-defense jury instruction and could be charged with aggravated assault. The ruling was applied to an individual who threatened force (but never discharged the firearm), when his fiancée was assaulted and was subsequently charged and given a felony conviction. He is now a prohibited person for exercising his god-given right of self-defense.

NRA has diligently worked with the legislature in both chambers to make sure that Kansas citizens' self defense rights are clearly articulated  to minimize the chances that the State Supreme Court will misinterpret the legislature's intent.

Please contact Governor Parkinson TODAY and urge him to support this important self-defense clean up bill. Contact information for the Governor is listed below.
