The gods were handing out DQs today....

I was at a USPSA match and was DQ'd for sweeping myself. Though I'm disappointed, I absolutely do not blame the RO- I would have DQ'd me too.

I was shooting a stage where I had to open a hatch to shoot an array. When I reached with my left hand it barely passed in line with the muzzle, I noticed it right away and the RO was right on top of it too. He stopped me and apologized to me for having to DQ me but he told me he didn't want to see me but a bullet in myself. I was frustrated but I certainly understood where he was coming from and I thanked him for catching it. From now on I will have more muzzle awareness- I'm glad it wasn't worse today.

Oh, and the RO had to DQ another guy on our squad for an ND. When he went to show clear, he failed to rack the slide. He pulled the trigger and "BOOM"! He had the muzzle pointed safely downrange and we were all a bit startled. I was scoring at the time and all I could think of was he was going home today. And then I got DQ'd on the next stage....

I know in an another forum there was discussion about the merit of competition in the context of self defense with a handgun. But I believe this incident will certainly help me. And I hope the rest of you will take a moment to consider it too.

PS:  Had a guy in my squad DQ'd on the last stage of the last day of the USPSA Nationals a few years back....talk about a bummer!

The RO's have a job to do. They do it for a reason, live it, learn it, and continue to love it. It's never personal. You are doing great, and doing good. As others posted, you will only continue to improve.

Would love to see a vid or pics, maybe a ballcap cam?

Thanks for the great attitude FA!  As an RO I've seen too many that even in admitting and accepting are not as good sports as they should be.  It is for everyone's safety, and you understand that well.  Thanks!

This is one of the areas where competition can help training.  If you compete and practice safely you will act safely when on "auto pilot."

No matter what kind of competitions you are shooting in.. every time a mistake is made..a learning lesson is learned and most likely NOT repeated...

TW, as for a hat cam' that might be something I do in the future. I think Tyler does that which he uses for analysis after the match, which is what I'm interested in doing too. I believe if I posted some of the video, you all might wonder why they put me on a timer and use a sun dial instead....
