Need to send PT-92 back to Taurus...how to do it?
« on: April 10, 2010, 11:08:59 PM »
Well my well used Taurus PT-92 today decided it needs a repair.  The extractor pin popped up while I was shooting.  It made my sight picture very interesting, and this pistol has had at least 5000 rounds or so through it.  So now I need to send it back to Taurus.  Who do you guys use to ship it back to Taurus?  Can I send it back to Taurus using UPS Next Day Saver Service?  I live in Texas, so restrictive local laws don't really apply.  Thanks in advance for any help.

UPS will ship it. I don't know if it's next day or not. Get ahold of Taurus to get the address for the service center, and see what shipping they reccomend. Good luck.

Google their 800 number and call them first. The may give a shipping number to cover the cost of sending it. But UPS and Fed Ex will  ship it for you but you must tell them is a Firearm and they require it to go over night, so it cost $$ if Taurus won't cover the cost for you. You can NOT ship it via the USPS!

if you bought it from a FFL, take it there, they will handle it for you.

Most FFL's will charge a fee for handling it, but they usually get better rates on shipping. I'd start with the call to Taurus and then call your local FFL to ask what they want to handle it for you. Handling it yourself really isn't that hard though. I'd go with what ever method is the most cost effective. ;D

I go with all that said "contact Taurus" first.  Every time I've needed to send a gun to a manufacturer I've called them, and they have either given me instructions, or they have given me instructions and sent me a  shipping label and/or box at no cost.

Good luck.  Let us know how it turns out.  A good gun with 5,000 rounds that needs maintenance is a good gun, and it will give a good view of Taurus as a company.  Not saying if they charge you it's bad, but how they treat you overall will be interesting to hear.

Our local postmasters (two towns) will not allow guns ... period.  They do not care if it is transfer, repair , or to yourself while traveling.  It must be common, because the last couple times I sent guns back the mfgs used FedEx and said that UPS also allowed, but FedEx was the easiest, and they just said "no" with no explanation concerning USPS.

Call Taurus, get a Return Authorization Number, they should send you a label, and the preferred method of shipping.

I used UPS for the Walther PPK/S recall, per S&W,  but had to go to a main UPS terminal, the local UPS store wouldn't do it.

Include a letter with the pistol, name, address, email, etc,...list what happened. Include all broken part(s).

Usually, they don't even require mags for service.
