As BATF has been placing increasing importance on their tracing function, they have been creating more firearms registration records. We need to question their statutory authority for automating the tracing process. Originally, the tracing process was intended to be handled by phone calls to the manufacturer or importer, followed by calls to the distributer, and finally to the dealer. By increasingly computerizing this process, BATF has created a massive system of registration of firearms, firearm owners and firearm transactions specifically prohibited by 18 U.S.C. 926(a).

The question is, is it the BATAF’s ultimate goal to have a tracing system and a registration system of every firearm and every firearm owner in the United States?

Uh, YES!!!
Our own ATF, has been receiving out of business dealers books for years and have informed no one what it does. While everyone knows it is digitizing them into an ever growing database, all guns bought, sold, make, serial #'s, etc,...

Nice. :-\

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

On the up side, the BATF's ability to digitize these records is probably second-to-none in incompetence.   It's not like their employees care whether these were done correctly.    SO the chance that they got the serial number correct, or the name of the buyer or the address is highly suspect.  Which means their database is actually fairly useless, EXCEPT as a threat.

Caution War Story:   My own states ability to digitize birth records from the county's handwritten logbooks was rather poor.   My  digitized records contains at least 3 significant errors.   And the state expects me to pay to go to court to affect a name change to correct their mistake.  I told them they could.....................uh forget it.  I already a have passport and several signed & sealed county copies of my birth certificate.

In the words of a good friend, "F.T.U.N.".
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison
