1911 Magazines ???
« on: April 27, 2010, 12:56:23 PM »
While I'm not a big 1911 guy, I do own 2 with this new Kimber Stainless II that I bought a few weeks back. I'm seeing a really big difference in magazine prices. Standard GI type mags can be had very inexpensively, while the top of the line models from Wilson Combat and Chip McCormick can run close to $40.00 a pop. Is there all that much difference from a function standpoint? I'm seeing 10 rounders avaliable as well. It would seem a good advantage to have the extra 2 rounds. What do you guys buy as far as 1911 magazines?  Bill T.

If all you are doing is casual plinking and such, use the cheap GI mags. I keep a supply on hand for casual shooting. For SD, I only use Wilson mags. I've been using the standard Wilson Combat 8-rounders (around $30 now?) for 20 years and never had an issue (knock wood). I bought a couple of McCormick 10-rounders and they have never worked if loaded over 8 rounds.
1911 mags can be finicky around the feed lip area and that is usually where the trouble stems from.

My personal opinion: Wilson's are the best for the money.......but that's just my opinion.   :D

Same, Same.

Wilson for serious stuff, GI for casual practice.

I'm using Chip McCormack 10 rounders and have never had a problem.

Wilson are $30-40 bucks at retail shops around here.  :-\  Primarily what i stick with.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

I have a Wilson Combat on the way, I'll let you know how it works. I use the factory Colt mags in my Commander & they work flawlessly.
"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty, teeth and keystone under independence. The church, the plow, the prairie wagon and citizens' firearms are indelibly related. From the hour the pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurrences and tendencies prove that, to ensure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable. Every corner of this land knows firearms, and more than 99 and 99/100 percent of them by their silence indicate that they are in safe and sane hands. The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil influence. They deserve a place of honor with all that's good. When firearms go, all goes. We need them every hour." I've had good luck with Act-mag, Kimber, KimPro, and whoever Para uses.  The only mag I have had a problem with has been Shooting Star.
