S&W .380 Bodyguard Pistol

Greetings,

I would like some input on whether or not to acquire one of those for every day carry when they come out in May. I currently have an M&P .40 and M&P 9C but looking for something smaller. I also wonder what holster to carry this in.

Hello TonyS, Welcome to DRTV, not too many first hand reports yet. I hope to really touch and get an up close look at one during the NRA Convention next month.

I will be asking the S&W reps. that very question about holsters, as well as the price. All the other manufacturers that jumped on the .380 bandwagon, makes stiff competition, and  the fact that ammo can be tough to find, and expensive, means quite a bit.

I am also a S&W fan, and hope to find out as much as I can, and will follow up in mid May.

Should be around a $400 pistol, but we'll see.

I would suggest you lean more toward a proven platform that has been on the market a while..... Kel-Tec or Ruger would get my vote for a pocket .380






P.S. The Kel-Tec is about $100 cheaper and is about an ounce lighter then the LCP

P.S.S. I love my Kel-Tec, but my S&W Walther PPK/S also can provide double duty as a "Pistol Whipping Device" Lots O' Steel on that one.

P.S.S.S.S (Is that enough S's?) The Kel-Tec weighs almost 4 oz less then the bodyguard.... add a 2 oz laser from Armalaser and you are still 2 oz ahead...... and much less $$$

Welcome TonyS...I would think the DeSantis Nemesis IF/When they start making them for the Smith would be a good choice for a pocket holster if the BG is small enough.  I have one for my Ruger and like it a lot.  Other than that I have no experience with anything else.

You might want to think  hard about replacing your .40 or 9mm as your daily carry with the small .380s.

You give up a lot of stopping power and ammo capacity in doing so.

The small .380s are so good because it is the gun you can always have with  you...you will carry it when you would not have picked up your usual carry gun.  It can stay in a pocket all day.

But for those times when you can pick up and wear your larger carry gun, I'd still do so and carry your .380 as a backup or as  a "quickest reaction" gun since you can have your hand on it in your pocket where you won't have your hand on your larger gun.

I look at mine as a supplemental carry..a backup..and sole carry only for those times when I would not have had my primary carry with me.
