Happy Range Trip, plus Newbie!
« on: May 03, 2010, 11:28:47 AM »
Maggie took her first range trip yesterday, since her surgeries. She didn't last long, but spent some time firing 38sp's through her two favorites...S&W 686 and her Ruger 161. She even fired a cylinder full of 357s at bowling pins! Then it was time to take a seat and watch her newbie cousin.

Her cousin grew up in a hunting family and actually has a shotgun for protection. Recently divorced, we convinced her that a handgun would be easier to maneuver and conceal around home and she took to the idea. So we took Cuz out for her first handgun trip.

I have to tell you, this woman is GAME. She started with Maggie's 686 and 38sp. She quickly found the sight picture and was shooting a six inch group at 10 yards within the first cylinder. A couple more, then she tried the Ruger with the same results.
Then we moved her on to my M&P 9. After taking a half dozen shots to adjust to the slide action, she actually shot as well with the bottom feeder. After a little more of that, she went right to my Sig 1911. I made sure the web of her hand was up under the horn and she dove right into 45 acp. She didn't shoot as well with it...tended to push it right before the shot, but it didn't scare her a bit. Just to round things out she fired 5 rounds through Maggie's Model 60 snubbie. She didn't like that much, but acknowleged that if she was shooting at an attacker she probably wouldn't even notice the discomfort of her hand.

We rounded the trip out with some bowling pin shooting. She did pretty well with that, and even did a load of 357 in the Ruger. She said it was uncomfortable but didn't squeal and run away. Good job!

We talked and after some advice and discussion, she thinks a standard 4" barrel revolver might be the best for her since she is wary of the semi-auto action. We agree. If you're not going to shoot enough to get fluid with the semi, stick with the wheel gun.

Finally, my girl is still shaky and gets tired very quickly, but I caught a shot of her moving into full extension and drawing a one-eyed grinning bead on Bin Laden's nose from about 15 yards. She got him too!

I got the blues as my companion.

Jay, this is the best, most positive post I've read on here in a long while.   :D
Great report and news.

"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison
