Actually, this disclosure might not be a bonehead move. Disclosing that you have x thousands of weapons, and thus pressuring other nations who have x dozens, to put their cards on the table might not be a bad strategy. Russia (assuming their weapons still work), is the only country we have a MAD relaionship with. Others (like China) can hurt us badly, but we can eradicate them and still have plenty left for a second strike, and they know it. Making them acknowledge this, while not my personal call on diplomacy, does have its merits, particularly in regards to the NKs and Iran. Note to Kim Jong Il "Yes you can blow up Hawaii (maybe).
