Air Force F-16s intercept ultralight
plane in southern Arizona near
Mexican border

Associated Press

Last update: May 16, 2010 - 4:17 PM

PHOENIX - The North American Aerospace
Defense Command says two F-16 fighter
planes intercepted an ultralight aircraft near
the U.S.-Mexico border in southwestern
Arizona.

The plane crossed from Mexico into Arizona
just after 6 a.m. Sunday. NORAD dispatched
two F-16s from Davis-Monthan Air Force
Base in Tucson and they shadowed the
ultralight for about 30 minutes until it flew
back into Mexico.

Lt. Cmdr. Gary Ross says he was unaware of
any radio contact with the small plane.

Ultralight aircraft are sometimes used to
carry drugs and other contraband across the
border.

NORAD responds about 200 times a year to
aircraft flying without radio contact or in
restricted airspace, but Ross says it's not
typical for the command center to intercept
an ultralight.

Ross could not provide further details about
why F-16s were sent to intercept the aircraft
Sunday.

How would you like to be in an ultra light and get buzzed by two F-16's?

Maybe this is the response we should give in Texas when the helicopters come across.

should of had a little bit of practice and engage some targets
Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

Makes you wonder if one of those AZ folks are going to test the Brady claim that .50 BMG will take down an airplane.

Honestly I'm shocked it showed up on radar, any one with half a brain would have been flying at less then 100'

I don't think a f 16 can fly slower then about 150 knots.  A dragonfly which is a common ultra light has a stall speed of about 22 knots and a VNE(never exceed speed) of 57 knots.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.
