Medical Training in Texas (near and around the DFW)
« on: May 16, 2010, 10:01:08 PM »
First off I apologize I think there was already a post a while back, but I couldn't turn it up in search.

Does anyone know of anyone around the DFW offering emergency medical training/trauma training... not sure what to call it but civilian/non public service courses.  Spending a lot of time around ranges and competitions, concealed carry, etc has gotten me thinking that I've ignored this skill set. I wouldn't have the least clue what to do if there was an accident at the range, except mabye to duct tape my cleaning diaper over the hole (probably not a good idea).

I'd prefer to take something like this from someone who is also in firearms training (only because I know what to expect from a good instructor in that arena),  but I also know there are several good places in the area that train EMS, Paramedics etc.

I just have no idea what courses would or wouldn't be appropriate for someone who isn't looking to make a career of it.

Check with the local Red Cross.  I know they do CPR and First Aid classes.  Don't know if the content is what you want.

I think Billy is referring to the combat medic / tactical 1st Aid classes that some companies offer.

A quick search found these:

http://www.insightstraining.com/view_course.asp?courseID=11
https://www.warriorschool.com/Medical/MedicalCourses/TacticalFirstAid/tabid/130/Default.aspx (NB: Tucson area)

James Yeager also has one, but at 5 days (and $1500) it is geared more for combat theater civilians than a casual learner. See here: http://www.tacticalresponse.com/course.php?courseID=23
