Vote for my "Remington Moment"
« on: May 24, 2010, 11:24:26 AM »
Hey guys

If you get a chance, go check out my entry in the "Remington Moments" contest and vote for me.  Get a chance to win my son a Remington shotgun.

While I've been hunting and shooting since I was 12, my father never really enjoyed hunting. I learned the skills and traditions of the field with my friends. As my own children have grown up, I've tried to expose them to the joy of the outdoors -- casual afternoons spent plinking at tin cans with a .22, walking through a stubble field on a crisp, bright November morning, the simplicity and wonder of a campfire.

My oldest turned 12 last year and begged to go through hunter safety. He passed with flying colors and got to walk the line at this year's pheasant hunt. He had been our "dog" in the past...busting brush and retrieving downed birds...but this year was different. He got to carry his own youth 870. A pheasant flushed at his feet within minutes of getting in the field and he struggled to take the safety off as "pheasant phever" took over. Later efforts were more successful as I proudly watched him harvest his first rooster.

Here's a picture of us just before heading in for lunch...I'm not sure who is more proud...father or son. By the way, that's my unloaded 1100 in the background...thousands of rounds through it and over 25 years old. It has never failed me.
