Bad Russians indeed. Woody, I am an old school, SW Fl. redneck. I think I speak for most of us when I say we can and will unload several  mags (and clips) into the ass of anyone proposing to set off a nuke in our state's estuaries. In fact, I've got a few reserved for BP and Dick Cheney. You should never be allowed to make a mess you can't fix and others will pay for. In Cheney's case, government should never let you do it with limited liability. You break it, you buy it. Can't afford the broken china? Stay out of the damn shop. Advice for mister Cheney, avoid the gulf coast. Also, stay the hell out of Everglades City Florida, as those crabbers will be needing new bait this year, and we tend to play kind of rough down here.

The reason BP is drilling off shore is because the DEMS continue to block drilling on land where this would have been a relatively minor mishap.
So it's ALL because of evil BP, right ?
Did you sell a car, truck, boat, 4 wheeler, snow machine, or motor cycle to protest ?
How about disconnecting from their nasty electric plants ?
Maybe you ordered your 401 to return those tainted oil -profits ?

Back on the topic, supposedly the Russians have done something similar in the past. They are not talking about just dropping a bomb on top of the well and hoping for the best, the article I saw last week was talking about going into the well about 18,000 feet.
My question is this, If the well has enough pressure to blow out the cement plug they tried last week, what is to keep it from blowing that nuke out like a spit ball from a pea shooter ?

While I agree about the "you break it, you buy it" view, we would have to understand that for a company to accept that type of risk to provide the oil we  "demand", that risk would have to be passed on to the consumers in the price.

One way or another WE will pay for it.   

Don't know if the government giving them limited liability and picking up the remainder of the tab is the best form of "group insurance" for risky oil ventures, but one way or another WE would pay for it.

No way should we pay for this.  Period!  If they try, use the Patriot act to freeze their prices to 80% of what the other companies are.  (If they all raise their prices, imminent domain all their domestic assets!)

Russia is stupid to think a nuke is a good idea.  What would the shockwave do to all the other pipelines down there?

As for the Dems blocking drilling on land, Why didn't Bush change that during those six years when he had majorities in the house and senate?

As far as I'm concerned all drilling in the gulf should stop as a matter of national security.  That includes areas in interrnational waters by cuba  (Let them get their oil from their buddy Chavez)  There is more than enough for us in North Dakota, Montana, and the border area of Canada.  Marathon is already updating their refineries for this.
