Is the Spikes Tactical upper and lower all Aluminum? What holds me back from buying a .22 LR, AR-15 is plastic. The S&W model is full of it, and the "Colt" Umarex M-4 is cheap pot metal, not made from a forged Aluminum piece. That gun you have looks to be very well made. Bill T.
This is just built from some Spike's components vs. being a complete gun. I agree though...I didn't want a "pot metal" or plastic AR (even though it would be lighter for the kids). I wanted a .22 AR that had the same size, weight and controls as a centerfire version.
I built this upper from a Spikes dedicated .22 barrel and dedicated bolt unit (about $365 total for the barrel and bolt) The bolt is different from the Ceiner/CMMG conversion units in that it doesn't have a chamber adapter but is specially made to interface with the dedicated barrel. It uses Black Dog magazines. All controls are the same except it doesn't lock the bolt back after the last shot...the follower on the mag does keep the bolt open...sort of like the Yugo AK mags.
Upper components are:
+ Spike's barrel and bolt
+ CMT upper receiver
+ YHM rifle length railed forearm
+ YHM front sight, rear fxed
+ DPMS A2 FH
The lower is DPMS with a RRA 2-stage match trigger and a Vltor eMod stock and is borrowed from my 6.8 SPC rifle.
