Smokeless can't explode.

I don't know. 50 grains of Bullseye will turn any .308 "sniper rifle" into a hand grenade.    ;D     Bill T.

I beg to disagree. As I posted on Micheals Blog we blew out a wall and had a neat little smokey fire from the unspent powder on the pistol range. The powder was contained in the joint cracks of the concrete floor.

Lots off smoke and some flames. There were several shooters on the range and an SO but no one was hurt.

The change in SOP was the range got swept, vacumned then power washed on a regular basis

True, but if enough burns in a space confined enough, the results are the same as an explosion.

Just wondering if the part of the destruction was caused by the ignition of a power store or if the same might  have happened in a ball bearing factory under the same conditions.

RC55, I realize it is nit picking, but it is like clip/magazine.
Black powder actually explodes. but bursting effects from smokeless powder are only a secondary effect of it's rapid burn rate and the pressure generated by the gasses created. In your post you specify

It is that containment that caused the explosive effect.
As an example of what I mean, it is not running the car in the closed up garage that kills people. it is the accumulation of gasses displacing O2. You could run an electric car for hours with no ill effects.

Smokeless powder can explode, under the right conditions, as will some grain products, it needs to be airborne and have a lot of o2, in the proper or if you will improper mix. I have seen flash fires on 2 instances, one a good friend who was sweeping his garage while smoking, and he reloaded in his garage, the other was at the indoor range, which had recently been swept and all the refuse was piled in the corners, it was my buddies time to shoot and he threw his smoke into the corner, whoosh, just a very big flash fire, but in Australia ( which used to make the best long range .22rf ammo, the WW Powerpoint ) had a powder silo explode, air/fuel ratio complete, it did explode and I cherish 2 bricks of the stuff, only used for matches that have prizes or money involved. The powerpoint is being made again, but the bullet design is not the same. The Australian version was a 42grn, semi wadcutter with 4 driving bands and a healthy charge of powder, best all around 10/22 ammo for the Chevy Challenge I ever used.
