As a competition shooting Range officer, I have seen things that would make you duck at 1st glance, usually newbies just getting into the sport with no qualifications as I once was. Seen shooters with actually good holsters, and a elastic belt, the pistol looks like it's bungee jumping, hangs low from the weight and then comes way up on the draw, maybe enough, it won't even come out, and when they holster and pick up brass, as they bend over, it hangs lower and points to the rear. Having had to grap pistols that were beginning to point in a dangerous direction more than once, grab for the slide, and if possible use both hands in a clapping motion to avoid any chance of touching the bang switch. Of course the other recommendation, is turn to your side, with one leg up to protect the jewels, and both hands around your head and eyes, but with the biceps down to protect from a side hit, and hope the safeties work as it hits the deck. This is actually a common reaction without any training, Monkey reflex, Holy S**t, something bad is about to happen kind of move.
