2 week suspension for hanging up (3 times) on a 911 call!  Demote him to the lowest pay rate possible (hopefully that would reduce his retirement pay) then FIRE HIM!

I was an EMS Dispatcher for a while in Fresno CA and I have been screamed at, sweared at, hung up on, and called a racist because I wasn't sending an ambulance fast enough  (even though it was on the way and I had to call back three times to find out what was happening) but DAMN.    The Police/Sheriff's Dispatchers might have been able to say what they wanted to callers but they would have been reprimanded if they hung up on someone without properly categorizing and transffering a call.  If we did that we would run the risk of being fired, but we were a private company under contract not county/city employees.

While not condoning the officer's actions, unless you've handled 911calls for 8-12 hours a day for weeks on end I wouldn't be to ready to hammer the guy.  Two weeks without pay is about right if this was in fact the first time he'd done a "cranial rectal insertion."

When people make emergency 911 calls, there is a great likelihood of panic-driven foul language (I've heard that many people tend to fall back on habitual tendencies under duress)....... the dispatcher should have taken the high road and sloughed it off and did the right thing.....the girl's foul language did not dismiss the fact that she was calling for help.
Even if the dispatcher was having a bad day, and this pushed his last button, he should have remained professional and did his job.

Just my 2 pennies.

If you are a 911 operator, its your job and you should be professional and "above the fray". When you call 911? You are probably having the worst day of life. Lets keep some perspective here.

I agree with FQ, if you're a 911 operator, you will, most likely, be dealing with people in EXTREME situations.  I would be surprised if I received a call without cursing being involved.  I don't care if he'd had a bad day or had been on the job for a days without end, his actions placed a life at risk.  There is absolutely no excuse for his behavior and losing his job should be the minimum punishment.  Due to the potential severity of the situation, there should be criminal charges and a civil suit (not just against the city) filed.  Just my opinion, which is lucky for him.

+1 for the suspension and demotion! However, I don't think you should fire someone who has a good record over one incident.

Honestly..... The girl is 17 and her old man, who has just gotten out of the hospital is flopping around like a salmon on the kitchen floor and this 20 year vetran "LEO" is upset about her phone manners? Here's a clue. We pay you to deal with crisis situations. Talk everyone down, get the needed information and deal with them appropriately. What part of week one at the police academy did you fail to sleep through? A 2 week suspension? If this guy can't control his temper and display better situational awareness than that he should never own a gun again, much less be able to carry one backed up with a badge. Its guys like him that keep folks like Al Sharpton in business. If they won't fire him? Well, parking violations are a great source of revenue. Probably enough to cover a thired of what the jury will give this family. He should be working on that. What part of panicked teenager (deal with it don't argue about it) did this badge heavy jackass not understand.
