This is our girl Gen when she was about 6 months old.

Gen was a purebred golden retriever who had the sweetest spirit of any creature I have ever known.  She came to live with us when she was 8 weeks old, and for the next 13+ years never left my side.  She confined to her indoor kennel the morning of my first heart attack, and damn near destroyed the thing trying to get out.  When the first LEO came through the door she knew that old dad was being taken care of, so she laid down and cried softly.

When I was sick she'd lay right beside my bed or sofa, and keep an eye on me all the time.  If I fell asleep and started snoring she'd nudge me until I woke up.  I guess she thought that meant there was a problem.  She used to sit looking out the dining room window about the time of day when she knew I'd be returning from work, and then met me at the door with a huge puppy-smile and wagging her tail with at a pace that could have knocked over a small child.

She was 90 pounds of gentle, loving dog, and I miss her terribly.  Sometime during the night of September 30th, 2008 she apparently had a stroke, because it was VERY obvious in the morning that there was a huge problem.  My wife and I held her in our arms as the vet gave her the injection, and this big, tough 50-something year old man cried like a baby.  Even writing this I'm tearing up.

This little girl gave her us her love, and our lives are richer because she was a part of them.
I love waking up every morning knowing that Donald Trump is President!!

Here is Rocco.  He's a purebred German Shepherd with Slovokian bloodlines.

Here he is at 8 weeks.  His first night in his new home.

Here he is at 5 months.  He prefers to chase soccer balls, not tennis balls.  He just bites them and brings them back to you.

He's twice as big now.  I need to get some more recent pics of him.

tt11758.......I'm setting here crying like baby. I've been there also.. and the pain of them being gone just never ever leaves..

Eric...(USSA-1....... He is absolutely gorgeous. Don't let Marshal ever be around him. he will never be the same.
He trained the Canine Shepard's for the police force in Norway and also had 2 or 3 at different time of his own. He has wonderful stories about them.. and all the things that they would do.
His old Tanya was more human than dog I think.

If we were not on the road so much , he would have another one for sure.

Thanks everyone for sharing.

Were hopeless when it comes to animals that are about to be destroyed.
Our four dogs are all "death bed" rescues. Make me sick to think what these poor animals went through, and I can only pray to GOD that they do not remember the bad old days, or at least they do not recall them well.

Let me find the inhumane people that did what they did..... the will be no saving them.

They are safe, happy, healthy, friendly animals now. Just don't raise a hand too fast around us now, the all know who to protect.
(funny to see the Chihuahua/Rat terrier get mad....)

Our first girl Lab mix

Our basket case 110 lb White Sheppard / fox hound cross

Number three the Chihuahua/Rat terrier mix - breed is called a RatChe, all heart and soul. (we also call her the Sheppard's Mini-Me) 110 lb and a 6 lb funny to see play together.

and our Thanksgiving present full breed Scottish Border terrier

Between the two terriers we no longer have mice, voles, bunnies (and I think a cat or two) on our property.

Nothing wrong with being human.....I've been in the same spot.
I'm a big man with a heart of what I THOUGHT was stone......turns out I can be a real 'softy' when it comes to dogs and kids.
