On the local area news this afternoon.

A south Albany crime victims fights back
By Jennifer Emert

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  A south Albany crime victim fights back.

When a young man pulled a gun on him Wednesday morning, he turned the tables and pulled his own gun. Crooks have stolen equipment from Southern Sweeping recently, so when a teen tried to rob one of the company's employees Wednesday, he was prepared. Jackie Sergeant and his partner mow the grass, edge the curbs, and clean the parking lots at several Albany businesses. Recently they've had equipment stolen as they work, so when someone approached the front of his truck and sat on the lawn mower Sergeant approached him.

"I said can I help you with something and he turned at me, and when he did he had a gun in his hand and I noticed he didn't have his finger on the trigger," said Jackie Sergeant, a Southern Sweeping employee.

In that split second, Sergeant reached for his pocket and his own protection.

"I put my pistol to his forehead and I cocked the hammer back and I told him, well we need to make a choice, we're either going to go to the hospital or someone's going to die," said Sergeant.

After bolt cutters were used to steal $800 in backpack blowers from their trucks many Southern Sweeping employees are doing what they feel necessary to protect their equipment and their lives.

"Some of our guys have permits to carry pistols and we do carry they have the right to do that," said Dallas Smith, Southern Sweeping Owner.

In that neighborhood Albany Police have responded to 26 burglaries since April as well as 8 aggravated assaults and one armed robbery. Sergeant didn't want to take anyone's life. "He took off running and I let him run," said Sergeant. He just wants to put in a day of work, safely.

"I like to get home to see my family and kids. Hopefully I'll never have to do that again," said Sergeant.

He hopes this young criminal learned a lesson Wednesday, one he'll share with friends.

Albany Police identified several persons of interest in that neighborhood and are actively investigating those crimes.

That was one of the reasons I posted. The whole thing was a 50/50 mix of good and bad. It could have gone from zero to ugly very quickly with the 'Hollywood' style actions. Yeah, the end result was a 'win' for both CCW in general and for the good guys, but there are several areas that were wrong things to do in a situation like this.

Such theatrics usually result in someone ending up dead.  Often it is the wrong someone.  If I feel that I have to draw my weapon, there is a very strong likelihood that I will be discharging my weapon as well.

I think the story might have grown a bit in the retelling, but so what? The outcome is the same. Who cares if he wants to be Clint rather than a scared guy who pulled his gun out and made the BG run? Good for him. Hs version will probably get a couple of free beers. ;D

I'm with FQ on this. If it's time to pull a gun, it's time to pull the trigger, not talk trash.
