What type of Grease are you guys using with your Garand?
« on: June 27, 2010, 10:25:06 PM »
Just bought a Garand about two months ago and was wondering what type of grease do other Garand owners use on the rails of the bolt?  It shoots great and I will post porn soon.

EP Wheel Bearing Grease.  You can get a huge tub of it for a few dollars.

I use the GI grease that comes in the tiny little clear plastic tubs with yellow lids.  I think I bought 20 of them for a few bucks years ago.  I've also heard LubriPlate recommended by Garand shooters.  Shooters Choice is also a good grease

I don't own a Garand but I use Lubriplate 130 on my M1A. Wouldn't this also work in a Garand?

I wrote a large review a while back about lubes and grease. I love my M1A, I paid some good money for the pleasure of shooting and cuddling my M1A. I really want my time with her to be long and problem free. I cannot comprehend how someone can own a piece of history or pay the money for the greatest (no bias  ;) ) rifle every produced only to put useless axle grease on it.

Spend some money and shoot that rifle until the bore is smooth.

I use this on both of my Springfield Armory M-1A's, as well as several other firearms. I had a tube of Moly Grease I was using for years, but I forgot and left it in a hot garage and the oil was separating out of it, and it got contaminated with a lot of dust, so I bought the Mobil 1 stuff. I like it better than the Moly because it seems to adhere better to the metal.  Bill T.

For what it's worth, both of the 2 new Springfield Armory 1911's I bought had the slides greased from the factory with a black Moly based grease. All of this stuff is avaliable at places like Auto Zone for a fraction of the cost places like Midway charge for all of these overpriced "Gun Greases".    Bill T.
