DPMS Oracle .308 M-4 ?
« on: June 29, 2010, 05:47:51 AM »
Does anyone have one of these? The Cabela's by me has them on sale for $1,049.00. I believe it's a new model. It's equipped with a forward assist, covered ejection port, 16" barrel with a "Birdcage" flash suppressor, 6 position M-4 style tele stock. The forend is conventional, not free floated, and it comes in a flat top, optics ready configuration with a slotted gas block that looks like you could mount a retractable front sight on it if you chose to go that route. The gun comes with 2, 19 round steel magazines.

The price on this weapon seems really good, and I just wondered if anyone has one, or a similar model from DPMS, and what you thought of it? Most of the .308 models from makers like Armalite I've seen start around $1,300+. This seems like a nice rifle for the price. Bill T.

DPMS is a leading name brand, the only caveat I would add would be Magazine price, Armalite and DPMS both use more or less proprietary Mags.

Bill I think I would go by your favorite local store first and see what they can order it for if they can't compete on the price, go for it. I'm not sure if your going to find a better price even though it is at Cabela's.

Gunblast.com did a review of a DPMS AR-10 a while back (I'm not sure of the model). Quinn, to no one's surprise, loved it. The groups he was posting were very impressive. As to DPMS itself, I have not had my rifle long, but zero problems so far.

I've had an DPMS LR-308(Panther) for 3 years now, my very first "black gun". I've run about 1000 rounds through it, mostly some mil. surplus I picked up and I have never had an issue. This is has been my deer rifle of choice since I got it. I have a Nikon 3x9 on it and using Federal Fusion, 165gr factory loads it is sub MOA at 100 yards and MOA at 300. I like this gun so much I picked up a DPMS LoPro in 5.56, they tell me this is how the "disease" starts.
I've heard some people run down DPMS at gun shows... based on my experience they must be nuts. I can't imagine the "Oracle" model wouldn't be a good choice. Is the price good... I don't know as I have not seen one around me. I wouldn't worry too much about the magazines(I almost said clip just to watch the fireworks) being proprietary, I didn't have any problem finding more at a reasonable price(about $30) when I needed one.

I wouldn't sweat the mags either. You are in a position to buy a dozen or so. That should last your lifetime even if they stopped making them tomorrow.

I'm not sure about it yet. I really don't need another AR type rifle. But I was there looking at a few Springfield Armory 1911's, and I saw this thing on the rack. They were pretty slow, so the salesman showed it to me, and it did look really nice. DPMS builds a nice rifle. I was impressed with the workmanship and the features for the price. He was saying that DPMS and Bushmaster really over produced their line during the buying spree that resulted after Hussein got elected, and now are offering big discounts to dealers who buy in large numbers. Cabela's bought a ton of them. He said he thinks several models will go even lower in the upcoming months. Much like the real estate boom, people thought it would never end.

I haven't made my mind up yet, I really like the Springfield Trophy Match they had. Cabela's doesn't get too many Springfield 1911's in, except for the Plain Jane A-1 Models. They also had a "Loaded" 1911 Target with a really nice matte black / brushed Stainless finish. Then there was this really nice H&K USP 9 MM................... You know how it goes.    ???    Bill T.

Before you jump billt, have you looked at the Bushmaster ORC in .308?

http://www.bushmaster.com/catalog-308ORC.asp

I also have to dig, but LWRC's R.E.P.R can be had at some deals in the ballpark.

Oh just get one of each,.....I forgot it was you who posted,.... ;)

I've read about both of them, but I've yet to see one anywhere.  Bill T.
