Gov. Bobby Jindal signs bills allowing guns in church
« on: July 07, 2010, 01:23:41 PM »
Gov. Bobby Jindal has signed into law one of the more controversial bills from the recent legislative session, one allowing guns to be carried into houses of worship.

Jindal's office said Tuesday the governor acted on the bill in the past few days after receiving it June 20.

Including the "gun-in-church" bill, House Bill 1272 by Rep. Henry Burns, R-Haughton, Jindal has signed into law 940 of the 1,067 bills the Legislature sent him, vetoed 12, and used his pen to line-item spending measures in four different budget bills.

Burns' bill would authorize persons who qualified to carry concealed weapons having passed the training and background checks to bring them to churches, mosques, synagogues or other houses of worship as part of a security force.

The pastor or head of the religious institution must announce verbally or in weekly newsletters or bulletins that there will be individuals armed on the property as members of he security force. Those chosen have to undergo eight hours of tactical training each year.

Burns' original bill was killed by a Senate committee but he tacked its provisions onto a related bill that started out changing the period to have a concealed weapon permit from four years to five years at a cost of $25 a year.

Burns contended that religious institutions in crime-ridden or "declining neighborhoods" need the added protection to ward off thieves and muggers.

The bill also allows a house of worship to hire off-duty police or security guards to protect congregants.

Opponents of the measure said that churches, synagogues, mosques and other houses of worship should remain free of guns and violence and should focus on worship.

Burns' bill will go into effect Aug. 15.

I asked my local FFL, who's also a MA State Cop, about how he packs his 1911 when he's not on duty.  He showed me a kydex IWB that form fit to his waste line and said..

"That's the one I wear to church, don't even know I have it on!"......

It's amazing that with all the restrictions we have up here, open carry is legal, you can carry in church, bars, restaurants and pretty much everywhere but Federal and State property.  I've also never seen a sign forbidding me to be armed, anywhere...

It's more amazing that Jindal had to sign this bill at all in LA...

Predators choose places where they do not think people will be armed, surely the sanctity of a church or other place of worship will not deter a deranged person from selecting it as a place to carry out their crime.  Law abiding citizens of age that are able to pass a background check that carry guns do not scare me, but a Church with a big "Gun Free Zone" sign out front scares me to death!  May as well say "pick me for your massacre!"

In my state it took a mass shooting in a church to get the law changed. Some guys robbed a church that was out in the middle of nowhere right after they took up the offering and shot up a bunch of people. Now you can CCW with the concent of the church's governing body.

Remember the United Methodist church opposes carrying firearms in churches according to an article written 2003:

Knowing only that the local UMC is where my own sister and her husband choose to worship, I could have confirmed the above.  The organized left is infiltrating churches across the nation and across the denominational spectrum for the purpose of driving amnesty, health care, re-distribution of wealth, and too many other socialist policies to enumerate.  Attend the church of your choice--that's important--but be prepared to stand against those policies that will harm our nation.

“I’ve lived the literal meaning of the ‘land of the free’ and ‘home of the brave.’ It’s not corny for me. I feel it in my heart. I feel it in my chest. Even at a ball game, when someone talks during the anthem or doesn’t take off his hat, it pisses me off. I’m not one to be quiet about it, either.”  Chris Kyle

The correct gun to carry in church would be a Colt .45.  It's in the Bible.  "Blessed are the peacemakers."
I love waking up every morning knowing that Donald Trump is President!!
