If you look at the more dangerous cities (NYC, Chicago, LA) you invariably find that they have the most onerous gun laws.  Look at the states with the most relaxed gun ownership/carry laws, and you find crime is going down.  Possible exception to this is Phoenix, AZ, but that's due to the illegal immigration problem that the Feds don't want to do anything about.
