Gamo Customer Service = Lobotomy
« on: July 08, 2010, 10:35:36 AM »
Gents,

Forgive the emotional rant that follows, I am just off the phone with Gamo customer service and am furious at the lobotmized people that work there.

Back story: I have a 440 hunter that ROCKS, awesome rifle, always works, is consistently in hits and is FUN! I love it. Unfortunately the sear broke last week on it. (no, it did not go full auto...whew.... ;)    ) .

So....I rip the gun apart to yank the offensive piece out to order a new one. Gamo Email is less than fast (still waiting for a response from last week on the breakage date). I call them to order the part.

They tell me: " We need to send that to an FFL"
Me: "huh?"
Gamo: " that part is FFL only" (with no decent explanation other than it MUST be sent to an FFL)

It only goes downhill from there. I explain this is not a firearm nor a serialized part that COULD be considered a firearm, it's a sear for a single shot break open pellet gun.

I offered to send the fire control group (pinned together trigger group, looks like most rifles). They decline and say that I need to send the entire rifle in. I explain the rifle is apart and I have the FCG in my hand, ready to be sent. They want the whole gun, no really....

Finally the gent on the phone allowed me to send the trigger group in for fixing. I won't even discuss how much they are charging me for this (lets just say it will double my investment in this gun..)

Lesson Learned: Gamo's are AWESOME until they break.

Thanks for listening,

Andy

Sounds like you might just be better off just buying a new one if they are going to charge a lot and not fix it cheaply. Once one thing goes, others might. Sorry about the poor CS. I have been idly looking at a Whisper for a while now. I just haven't been able to justify it. This is one more reason not to.

I would think about just buying a new rifle for the part you need and keep it around as a parts gun incase you have any further problems....... And then call Gamo back and tell em where to hang it ;)

FQ,

Yep, I was after the Whisper (it is cool....!) but will be shopping elsewhere for my airgun needs.

I fired off a nasty-gram to the customer service email address and will report back on the response and how the gun turned out once fixed.

I have been very, very happy with my RWS 34 in .22 for years. Its not a tack driver, in the anal retentive airgun sense of the word, but shoots minute of tree rat at fifty yards. At 800 plus fps in .22 its all you need. The only reason I have looked at the whisper is that is loud and my city passed a no airguns ordinance. Other than that, with an RWS one piece mount and a bushnell AG 4X its been treated like a Glock and kept shooting for 18 years. I would look at one.

A buddy of mine shoots an Anshutz, one of those spendy units. Honestly the trigger is so light that it is run by thought control....way cool and really shows how much I suck at airgunning!

I have been pining to get some trigger time behind a high end pistol, like this:

But have not met anyone local who has one. (and I just cannot afford one!)

The RWS was $125 when I bought it. Figure you can find it for $200, to $275 w/a scope. A LOT cheaper than anschutz. Thats not whats its geared for. A light hunting trigger (maybe 3-4 ilbs with take up to a crisp break). It can do sub 2" at 35-40 yards. Good enough for me. Its got enough power to go through 5/8 inch ply at ten yards (oops! get a better back stop! :-[). Still in .22 a great plinker/hunter. Others will be able to point you at the target guns.

I bought one of those $20 Chinese spring powered pellet rifles. It's actually my 2nd one, cuz some old time Yankee miser thought he was cheating me at $60  ;D  (Some times they only get old because they are lucky ;D  )

The darn guns shoot like laser beams  !   ::)
Iron sights, but at  it's range 20-30 yards, I don't need my glasses to shoot.  ;D
Externaly they are a little blocky, and spring power probably are under powered for your needs.
But the Chinese also import "Air" guns, up to .375 and .50 Cal. that may be worth a look.
I remember seeing an article about Boar hunting with them.

I used to shoot international air pistol, and have had some mighty fine precision pistols and rifles, FWB, Baikal, and an odd Gamo that is really a very good shooting pistol that looks like a 1911, and inexpensive. I had 2 FWB, a model 65 recoiless, and a C20, the C20 was one of the predecessors to p44, co2 not precharged pneumatic, the currency exchange rate is what keeps these guns high dollar, I bought when the dollar was strong against the deutschmark , if you really want one, get on the NRA sport shooting classifieds, my c20 was only used for a an airsmith to make a muzzle break, and it was a Beeman select version with extra gas cylinder, I paid 600, shot it about 3 yrs and sold it for 1200, with a lot of extra goodies. I still have the Baikal russian precision pistol, single cock pneumatic, only 300 fps, but it does have a trigger that can be adjusted in less than 8oz, very adequate sights, and I got it through our JR shooting program on a group buy for just under 200.00, it will outshoot any but the best. .2" 5 shot groups at 10 meters. In Olympic terms, that is a decent pistol, not premium, premium is a .4mm 5 shot group with 4.5 mm projectile.

Now as to rifles, I have a RWS 48 side cocker, good 1,000 psi rifle shoots ok, good sights and trigger, but my new favorite that I have had for 5 yrs now is my Airforce Talon SS, in .22, Kodiak 22 grain pellets at 1,000 fps in 3/4" at 50 meters.

Base cost is 450.00 back then, and I got the optional 24" barrel and the scope mount. It is loud, but hits very hard and I can make hits at 100 meters on 8" plates, if you hold 24" high.

I also bought the Swedish bicycle air pump to go with it, so I don't have to have a scuba tank to fill it from, cost is 250 bucks, but it will pump up to 3500 psi. You better weigh better than 200 lbs if your going to use the pump to that level.
