They were banned in at least one of the Colonies before the Union was formed, Mass, IIRC.

I guess it is a case of Lost Wisdom.

I think that the FEDs are mad because some Local LEOs are doing their job better than they ever did. Clean up America deport a lawyer.

I doubt it was Mass. John Adams was a Lawyer.
