Dog Guilty in Shooting

Sadly, shootings occur too often in Chicago...but never a shooting like this. In Wellington, New Zealand shootings of any kind are infrequent.

On Saturday, July 10 -A dog accidentally stepped on the trigger of the .22 rifle and ended up firing at his 40-year-old owner.

.The injured man was among a group of four who had just killed and butchered a domestic pig. They were climbing into a SUV to leave when the gun went off.

The man was flown to Whangarei Hospital , where doctors removed the bullet from his left buttocks.

Senior Constable Ian Anderson (is this what the lead player in Jethro Tull is doing these days?) said the man was lucky not to have been more seriously injured.

No charges will be filed - for there are no laws in New Zealand which deter dogs from using firearms.

Safest place to get shot at least.  LOL!  But seriously, I got a the dreaded call about a year and a half ago, your son was shot.  I was petrified.  Turns out not to be very serious, but he still was extremely fortunate. 
Out hunting rabbits with his best friend-15, his best friends little brother-10, and my dad-Old.  The youngest had not been observing the Four rules and was relieved of his firearm, bolt action .22LR, earlier in the day.  My son and his buddy had jumped a rabbit and had cornered the rabbit in a small batch of brush (wheat that hadn't been harvested) and where investigating their options.  Suddenly my son's right leg was knocked out from under him, he thought the rabbit had hit him.  Until he tried to stand up, covered in mud, and is leg HURT. 
The young man had returned to the truck, where my dad was taking a break, and retrieved another .22 from the truck without saying anything to dad.  He returned to the rabbit patch and shot what he thought was a rabbit, which in fact was my son's dirty pant leg.
In the end they couldn't remove the bullet without causing more damage than leaving it in there and no charges were filed against the kid.  His punishment was levled out according to his deeds, but didn't seem to have an impact on him.  My son was walking through the school and heard the young man bragging about his part in the shooting a month or so later.  Rather enraged, he helped the young man on to the closest desk placing him on his back with a hand around the kids throat(I told him that wasn't the correct way to handle it but went easy on him considering the situation).  He informed the kid that would be the last time there would be any bragging about shooting my son without serious ramifications. 

I hope those involved learned some life lessons about gun safety I know my son and dad did.

Do you mean to tell me that just any mutt can walk into a gun show and by a gun ?
With out any kind of background check or references or anything ?
There should be a law about this bloody insanity.
If it saves a single azz cheek it will be worth it !

Pig hunting with a .22 around?

I guess he's lucky,... :P One of those pick up truck rifle racks always kept the booger PAW from the bang switch....

I remember reading a few years back where a guy laid his shotgun down on the tailgate of his truck.  His hunting dog jumped into the back of the truck and stepped on the trigger shooting the owner.  I can't remember for sure, but I think the guy may have been killed.

Kiwi's are like that though, even their dogs dont like them, they cant play cricket, they worship bum sniffifing (RUGBY) and their priminister looks like she chases parked cars for a living.
NZ is the forgotten state of australia, sort of like the poor cousin.
Although it does have some redeeming features like its GUN LAWS - The bastards!!!!   :'(
