Gunman,
Great choice, it’s hard to find unadulterated N frames; especially non 44 mag.’s. I have many N- frames both 6” & 6 ½” all 60’s – 80’s vintage. These revolvers are extremely overlooked, mostly due to the caliber, because of the popularity of the .44 mag. There are many great wheelguns in this category. The .357 mag’s., models 27 & 28 in barrel lengths from 3 ½ - 8 3/8, the 41mag’s, model’s 57 & 58; the 58 is I think the most over-looked N-frame, is like a model 10 M&P on steroids, and one of my favorites. And then there are the model’s 24 (44 spl.), 25 (in both ACP & Colt) and others and of course most were available in Nickel, thus adding an additional level of collectables.
Will you be using it for target practice, hunting or home defense? If for target practice I, like most shooters, like the Keith-style SWC. But if you’re keeping it around the house for the creepy-crawlers I prefer the 175gr over the 210gr bullets.

I just use it for target practice.  I have other guns for CCW and home defense.  I use the Keith style bullets for target practice.  However, I got to let loose every now and then with a 210 gr JHP stoked with H110!  Those milk jugs full of water wont mess with me no more!!!!  Thanks for all the nice comments, guys.  I really, really like this gun.  I seen it in a shop and did not buy it.  Went home.  Worked that night (3rd shift).  Came home.  Went to sleep.  Slept 3 hours, thinking of that damn gun the whole time.  Woke up, drove the 45 miles to the store I seen it in and bought it.  I did manage to get them to knock $30 off.  By the time they put the tax on her it was sticker price anyway.  But, it is one sweet shooting .41! HBman, it is not the only .41 Mag I own, I also have an Old Model Blackhawk.

Gunman,

An Old Model Blackhawk was my first 41 magnum. I bought it New as a packing gun when Deer Hunting.
Was looking for something new and had the list narrowed down to the Blackhawk or a S&W 58, went with the Ruger because of the adjustable sights and the price was a little less. While I have an array of 41s now I still don't have a 58 but I am looking to add one. Still got the blackhawk and it ain't going anywhere.
    Enjoy that Smith. :)

Gunman & HBMan,
I too have a Blackhawk in .41 (all though a New Model) in 4 5/8” and consider it a great gun and believe it to be almost bullet proof. As for the Model 58, years ago I passed over several of these (must have been a lapse in judgment) and like many different guns, they were overlooked . . . and now where are they now?

I have thought about a .41 to carry on some deer drives through heavy brush and thickets.  How readliy available is factory ammo?  I don't reload but could get Bro-n-law to load for me me if I buy the dies.

I have this NIB one (pinned & recessed - papers indicate '72-'73 vintage) that is available for adoption into a new home...if anyone might be interested... ;D

I find myself wanting more and more a model 58. It is ashame that the 41 magnum, much like the 10mm never took off in LE agencies. There were some that had them but from what I have read the .357 magnum of the day, I think that 125gr was much more accepted than the 41 magnum in the same respect that the 40 caliber took over the 10mm. I guess I am an odd ball in that I seem to be attracted to the odd ball calibers, 41 magnum/10mm/44 special.
