So it begins
« on: August 03, 2010, 04:00:07 PM »
Michael once again great show, thank you for taking the time to gather up your recording machinery and giving us more of your time than we hear.

Still... I hate to do this, and since its just me for the moment don't take it too hard but I thought you, of all people would be the last media like guy to start the call to have the mighty "R" party replace the other big party.

I am only 24 and so perhaps this can be both held against me and used as an excuse for my idealistic thinking but I do not nor will ever believe that replacing a bunch of socialist with a bunch of Monarchist is going to do any justice to the great citizens of this country. We sat through 4 years of big "R" controlling everything and we got nothing, zip, zilch, nada. In fact the things we did get were almost as bad as the debt we now have. The Patriot Act, the warrant less wire tapping, the increase in TSA involvement, two wars the first Stimulus Plan. The Repugnant party has nothing to offer us. Just because they are “friends of gun owners” doesn’t mean they will do anyone including us any good.

Every election cycle I hear the same thing repeated on every gun board over and over. “We need to vote this guy because he’ll win and… Aww don’t be stupid the Libertarian party doesn’t have a snow flakes chance in hell.” Why? What is so awful about what they stand for? Getting rid of the income tax? Legalizing drug use? Allowing women to choose and gays to be happy is so bad? “Ah Ha, you see we I believe that gay marriage is a sin…” Yeah well that’s great! I am so happy that you have found a religion that you believe in and it makes you feel like a good person but just because some people have lower morals than you doesn’t mean you should decide what is best for them. There are many people that believe guns are evil. Now why is it you can laugh about that and cause a scene and dance up and down about how you can’t legislate morality when it comes to something you like but in other circumstances that is ok?

That is an example of a conversation that I have had more times than I can remember, and you can pick your hot button issue and if you are not a Libertarian than fine, but why are we constantly allowing ourselves to be tricked into believing that the “R” party is our friend?

This IMHO is the most important election cycle. The POTUS is a figure head, they cannot write bills, they cannot give an executive order that supersedes the Constitution (or at least they shouldn’t be able to). This year we will vote in the people that have this power. The people who can and will keep the POTUS in check, who can and could get rid of some of these ridiculous laws that make it impossible to be a citizen for very long. If we have a handful of Constitutionalist or Libertarians in congress think of the chaos that would ensue. Think of the nonsense bills that would be struck down by people who not only take an oath but actually participate in its declaration.

I want one thing and that is to be left alone, but I firmly believe that if I am to obtain such bliss I will need to safeguard my enemies from the same persecution I seek refuge from. It needs to change, the call this year should be to vote them all out. Get all of the career politicians out and replace them with a different party, a different ideal. I challenge anyone to visit the web site for the Libertarian or the Constitution party and tell me that you do not like 75% or better of what you read. Then tell me that you like 75% or better of what the current political parties favor.

OK I’m done, rant off…

Well, in truth, I have no love for the Republicans...most of them share a progressive philosophy that is no different than the Dems. I have lobbied (occasionally in the halls of power) that we in the gun culture were not well served by an unconditional alliance wih a single party. To be frank, most of the planks in the platform of the Republican Party make me ill. My background is libertarian, which when expressed as a political philosophy can be summed up as, "Leave me alone!"

However — and this a VERY big however — when we in essence surrender the field, which is what happened in the last election cycle, we allow the other side to wholesale shove their agenda through, especially if they're willing to take the hit that comes from such unilateral actions. Obama has done tremendous damage to the United States in a very short span of time (building on the damage that the progressive George Bush already did). I found myself in a situation where I had supported Second Amendment Dems who then unconditionally supported Obama's progressivist agenda.

Progessivism is the disease, and it does not respect party affiliation.

I am a recovering conservative/libertarian and I agree with everything JD and Michael has said to this point. Toward the end of W's tenure in office I began to really question what was going and how it squared with my core beliefs. The Gadsden flag and New Hampshire's state motto (Live Free or Die!) resonate with me.

For me it's "LIVE FREE OR DIE!".....

There is no PARTY that truly has the people's best interests at heart in this country. However when it comes to the insane progressive, socialist, marxism we have had for going on 20 months there are no easy answers. It's time to ditch the backing of a single party and start supporting people who stand firmly behind the CONSTITUTION regardless of party affiliation. For me, though, the problem is that in both parties you have people like Scott Brown who strongly oppose one measure of governmental abuse (healthcare) but have no problems abandoning those who elect them to side with the establishment in Washington. At this point I don't see a clear victory for freedom in 2010 or 2012. Sorry for the rambling but it's been a long day.

I've said it before, any one who votes for any Dem is a fool who deserves what they get.
The R's may do messed up things, be RINO's, or crooks, But the messed up stuff and bad laws are not major planks of their party platform, which is the case with the Dem's, .  the Bluest of Blue dogs, is going to vote for his campaign funding and   " F you".
Have you forgotten Obamacare so soon ?
Any vote for any Dem is a vote for corrupt, Union , welfare socialism.
It is the whole basis of the party even before FDR.

Those who ignore history are condemned to repeat it.
