New Gun Range in N. Atlanta
« on: August 10, 2010, 07:31:42 PM »
They just opened and they have 2 full 25yard bays and one 30yard bay.  PLUS, their set up for rifles.  Just no depleted uranium, tracers or incendiaries.  They can handle .50BMG, but because of the close quarters they draw the line at around .41xx magnum rifle rounds.  We'll see how they like my .357Max.

Just dropped in to visit today.  They're trying for "upscale"  "club" with lockers and a members only lounge, but their hourly prices aren't that bad.   $10 to shoot during lunch hour.   One of the yearly membership perks is one gun a year purchase at $50 over cost, plus hefty discount on FFL fees if you use them for transfers.  One other interesting fee is the $10 rental gun BUT you can shoot one gun, bring it back to the counter and trade for another one....all for the single $10 per visit.  So you could try all their rental pistols for just $10.....if you have enough time and ammo.

It's only 9 miles from work and I may start dropping by once a week during lunch.   They're looking into sponsoring action pistol matches.   Only negative is that during normal hours no drawing from holster.

Sounds like a nice place, and the rates are reasonable.  Also jealous.

Looks like a nice place. We have a similar type of range on the east side of town. They have some good prices on their guns from time to time. This is where I bought both of my Springfield 1911's a while back.  Bill T.

Must not be JEALOUS...

Crap.  That didn't work.

An observation by a jealous Crusader
“I’ve lived the literal meaning of the ‘land of the free’ and ‘home of the brave.’ It’s not corny for me. I feel it in my heart. I feel it in my chest. Even at a ball game, when someone talks during the anthem or doesn’t take off his hat, it pisses me off. I’m not one to be quiet about it, either.”  Chris Kyle

Went today at lunch.  $10 flat rate for however long I wanted to stay, plus the clerk said I could come back any time today and continue shooting without paying any more!

The target carriers have a limit switch when they come home.  If you stop too soon they stop a little far out to reach.   So you let them get past the limit switch then release them just in time for them to coast to the "stop" with out banging it.   I ran the target carrier all the way out and hit the far stop (no limit switch there) and it dropped my targets.   Some of the minor things that need tweaking.  Good ventilation.....my smokey HS 6 loads cleared up real quick.   Reasonable lighting down range.  Good markings for distance.   Plenty of table space behind the range.

One really neat feature of the fee structure is their gun rental.   I haven't tried it but when you rent a handgun you can swap out for no extra charge.   So you can put a mag or two through a Glock, bring it back to the counter, check out the sig, bring it back check out..... So for one fee you can try out every handgun they have.  Of course you're paying for range time.   Also, they don't make you buy their ammo.

All of these neat features and range charges are subject to change, of course, but I need to take advantage while the opportunity presents itself.

The no range ammo alone would make join, particularly if I reloaded. Here, range ammo is pretty standard at indoor ranges. Liability. >:(  Even though its only $15 per box for 9mm, that extra five adds up. The one gun a year and zero transfer fee? Sweet. How much is membership? I'd love to own a franchise. ;D

Sweet alf, really sounds like a great range.

That's why I joined a private gun club, much less restrictive than 4 pages of rules & regs. RO's that talk to you like your 12, ammo restrictions, etc,....

A new range, regardless, is a great thing.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

I used to live two miles from there, I hate it when places get better after I'm gone.

Tke it from a Florida native. Its a damn sight better than having them get worse once you get there. :-\
