TAMPA — A Walgreens customer attacked a would-be robber with his cane Wednesday morning, chasing the man out of the store before he could get any money, Tampa police say.
At 6:48 a.m., a man entered the Walgreens at 2115 E Hillsborough Ave. and motioned for a customer to be quiet. The man had a brown paper bag over his right hand, and he pointed it at a clerk, demanding money, police say.
That's when customer Clifford Leo Bisek, 69, of Tampa attacked the man with his cane and chased him out of the store. Police say the would-be robber ran south toward 22nd Street North.
Tampa police released video and asked the public for help in tracking down the suspect. They describe him as a white or Hispanic man, between 18 and 25 years old, about 5-foot-8 and about 150 pounds.
He was last seen wearing blue jeans, dark shoes and a baby blue sleeveless, hooded jacket with a white T-shirt underneath. The jacket had "971" embroidered on the back and a black, vertical stripe on the right side with "WMA" written with white material.
