Assault packs are nice Ranger. (I'm talking moutaineering assault, not tactical). I've got a Patagonia Rock Lobster that is about 3000 CIs. Very narrow, wont hang up in the bushes, commpression straps, lots of attachment points and light weight. Its good for three days if you pack small and carries about forty pounds comfortably and with good balance so you don't feel like a turtle. It is my go to over night or even get out of dodge bag. I prefer the Gregory 5000 CI for extended camping trips (voluntary or other wise). But if I've got to grab it and still move easily? Its hard to beat the climbing packs.

The one thing for ME that is essential in bag or like that Gearslinger is having MOLLE straps on the shoulder strap so as to mount cellphone and/or radio closer to my ears in case I've got my IPOD on.  The next trip I take I'm taking a set of radios because my buddies had a hard time keeping up on the Mickelson Trail and the Maah Daah Hey Trail is A LOT more remote.

FWIW, my wife uses a Maxpedition fatboy as a purse.  I made sure she didn't know the name.

Oh, NICE!  After I've spent days trying to convince myself.  "I wouldn't look gay carrying that..."  LOL!

I gotta look up all these other bags you guys mention for sure though.  Definately sticking to the backpack idea NOW...   ;D

I want this one. ;D

SWEET!  Even as the little "fanny pack" it does a great job disguising the pistol.  I don't think the average pedestrian would identify it anyway.

I'm really not wanting to meet a U.S. cop carrying an MP5 though!  Their general intelligence, skill, training, & professionalism level with that kind of weapon make a freaky scary mix!  LOTS of UK cops carry such...  Whole different story.

It is a pretty sweet pack, just wish it was more square like a messenger bag--or someone starts making a triangular shaped laptop.

I may buy the fanny pack and rig it as the shoulder strap on a regular messenger bag as an EDC/BOB/GO bag.
"Why are you carrying a pistol?  Expecting trouble?"

"No Maam.  If I was expecting trouble, I'd have a rifle."

If its just just as a daypack, I like a  TNF, actually our store brand clone from Hudson Trail Outfitters. Its a good sized, but not silly big, two zip, one compartment bag (maybe 2000 CIs?). Its got a hip belt, compression straps and a foam type back stiffener (a real plus), but it still folds small. Sling it over one shoulder and look like a student, or you're good for a  day in the bush or as a carry on. I've had that thing for twenty years and even used it for two summers as a courier. Retailed for about sixty bucks (so figure a hundred) and it was made in a North Face plant. If I had to buy new, I'd look at TNF first.

Sorry FQ, but no matter how I dress or what I sling over my shoulder, an old fart like me is NOT gonna look like a student.  Looking AT students, on the other hand.......  ;D
