Couldn't Resist Just One New Addition At The Show Today, Blame deepwater

Joined the crowd, and am giving a 1943 Moisin-Nagant 91/30 in 7.62x54, a new home. ......MINE .

Hand picked, by me, matching numbers, stock is not dinged or marred, actually has some decent color and veining in the furniture.

$99.00 with free bayonet, out the door.

I know J&G, and other dealers have them cheaper, but by the time I pay an FFL transfer fee, I'm right at $100 anyway.




What "pushed" me over the edge is deepwaters fault. Shooting his, let me have a chance to see for myself how they do, and they work and shoot just fine. The rifle is really long, and with bayonet, is as tall as I am. 6'1".   Winchester makes a 180gr SP that were $19.97 for 20 rds. I guess a hunting round, if one were so inclined... Wolf makes some non-corrosive stuff also.

I still have 240rds. of milsurp ammo, I purchased by mistake last Spring. But hey! Makes a great club, pig sticker, and will shoot ammo dug up out of a Yugoslavian pasture in 1949.

I'll get a range report soon, right now we have T-storms, all around for the next few days, and it has been oppressively HOT!!

Where was it made? I have one that is supposed to have been made in the Tula plant; supposedly it has a little "provenance" associated with it. But I think that was just gun show marketing..... Good buy!

My preliminary research, based on markings, (which had a healthy dose of cosmoline all over it), has the Izhevsk Arsenal stamp, however, there is some question whether the Sestroryetsk Arsenal is possible.

They had the Tula's there for slightly more money. My understanding is there were three primary Arsenals in Russia, when I really clean the damn thing, I hope to at least get a better idea, and post pics of the proof marks.

They made "Millions" of these rifles, and this one is solid, and I am looking forward to trying it out.

I talked to Operatot about the length issue. He reckoned it would be about $50 to shorten it to 16" and recrowned. If you have a steady hand with a hacksaw and can recrown it yourself? Free. Still you've got $150 in a nice sporter and its not like you're ruining the value of a collector's item or anything.

Congrats on the ney toy. I got both my M38 and 91/30 for about the same price at Big5, but I use the M38 for gathering wild pork chops. I had a M44 but my stupid ass sold it and havent found a replacement yet.

16" is way too short for that round.  I would not go under 20.
