Lesser of Three Weevils? How to vote?
« on: August 18, 2010, 05:32:14 AM »
The Florida Senate race has become a joke (big surprise). On the GOP side? Rubio, an amesty supporting Miami Cuban with shady business practices and endorsed by Rush and Coulter. Short version? A yahoo who I wouldn't trust to mow my lawn. On the Democrat side? A: Kendrick Meek, a Maxine Waters Clone who is endorsed by Bill and Pelosi. :o B: On the other? Jeff Greene. A guy who had Heidi Fleiss as a house guest for a year (and who can blame him? ;D), but who also had Mike Tyson as his best man. :o. On the side of sanity? Charlie, the rino, Crist. What the hell do I do? I am registered Dem, as we have closed primaries, and if you want to vote in my district, you register Dem (its the same reason I registered GOP in Indiana). Texas has it right with open primaries, but Fl. didn't get the clue. Here, Independents and third party voters are disenfranchised. So, vote for the Pelosi/Clinton backed tool, or the whack job? Fleiss in the guest house, I can write off as a publicity stunt. Tyson as a best man? Not so much. But, when Pelosi endorses you? No way in hell you'll get my vote. Thoughts? Suggestions? Its a tight race and write ins are not an option. It really is the lesser of two weevils. But which is the lesser?
FQ13 who wants to hear from Floridians, and others. Haz and TW are GOP because they are in districts where a GOP candidate stands a snowball's chance, but still, Meek, or Greene? Both make me want to vomit. The Sunshine State ain't so sunny when it comes to the US Senate.

I have to disagree about open primaries.  The purpose of a primary is for members of a particular political party to decide which candidate is going to represent them in the general election, right?  So allowing everyone to vote in any primary, regardless of party, is, to quote Gen. McAuliffe, "Nuts."  I could just as easily vote for a candidate from the opposing party because I think he/she will be easy to beat in the general election, which defeats the purpose of the primary.  If you're a member of a third party, have your own primary.  I've been tempted a lot since 2008 to change my voter registration to independent, but don't because I'd lose the ability (voting in a primary is not a right) to vote in primaries in PA.

And can we please stop throwing the word "disenfranchised" around every time there's something about an election we don't like or understand?  It's as annoying as "at the end of the day" and "it is what it is" being repeated

Point granted BAC. Its just that if I'm true to who I am, I will have no voice. Vote Dem (primary) in my districts (as their guy will win) or stay home. The reverse was true in In.. There it was vote GOP (again, primary) or don't bother. The general elections are a joke. I am not oppressed, just annoyed.

Vote for the biggest loser to deprive the front runner of a vote

My ole Dad used to say: "better the crook you know rather than the other crooks you don't!" I think he was talking about voting, but I'm not really sure. He too was a Democrat, but not just for convenience. But he also played poker...

I wish the TEA Party would cut the Republican apron strings and become a real 3rd party.
It seems like half the party hacks in the state are waving Gadsden flags these days. I don't expect it's any different where you are.  >:(

Thus my instinct to vote for Crist in the General. He is an "Independent", kind of like Lieberman. "My own party got tired of my crap so I'm trying for the office I feel entitled to without them". Sad to say, he's maybe the best guy running. Charlie Crist, a party of one. :-\

Did you lift that from the Captain's joke in Master and Commander?  If so...great book, great movie.

Indded I did I did sir! The O'Brien series is great. Forget the movie, read the books (though on the big screen, you do feel the cold salt water ;D). They are worth every penny.
