Eotech problems, my fault or their's?

over the last two years I have purchased three eotech holographic sights. each one uses a different type of battery. and everyone of them has a problem. I put one on a bushmaster 9mm pistol and it with the slightest bump turns it on or off. so I thought is was faulty. next I bought a Kriss Vector with all the trimmings (including an eotech specifically marketed for this rifle) a brand new battery change yields 6 hours untill dead, even while turned off. purchased a third with the same problems. so now i've spent about a grand with no useful holo sight. I expected more. recommendations for another brand or type?---Heath

You are getting bad use from your eotechs, contact the factory, you should get 300+ hrs, my choice although I own Eotech is aimpont 10-50 thousand hrs, hard to beat.

Dunno man. I have a gently used Eotech 12 on my AR. Its pushing a year with the same 2 AAs (turned off when not in use), and still going strong. Granted, its been asked to do nothing more strenuous than sit in the safe and go to the range, but I haven't a word of complaint. Second best money I ever spent on an optic. Maybe I got lucky?

I had a problem with my Eotech and call the factory and sent it in and in about two weeks received it back as good as new and no charge.  Great service.  My Eotech was about four years old when I sent it back.

I had some EoTech's in the past and didn't really care for them, poor battery life and didn't stay zeroed. I also felt like the reticle wasn't as crisp or clear as I'd like. I've switched to all Trijicon products now with a mix of the RX reflex sights, Tri-Power and Mini-ACOG's. No batteries to worry with for the most part (the tri-power has them but I've never needed the battery illumination yet). I like the chevron (triangle) reticle and the fact that I can get it in most models.

There are several different models from Eotech.  The reason for different battery sizes is to cut down on size and weight of the unit when it's used on applications like pistols.  The bigger units (longer) take AA batteries that last longer, but again, are bigger and weigh more.  I wanna say the smaller unit takes N batteries.  I forget.  Their sights were pretty much unchanged for YEARS, then they came out with the gaurd that goes around the outside, followed by a change in the reticles available, and an option for the unit to work with night vision.  That was about the same time they went to bigger / easier to get to buttons, and came out with an entirely new low profile model for shotguns.

About 4 years ago they went from being a "non-profit" government supplier (also supplied Bushnell with "Holosights") to being purchased by L3 Logistics.  Don't know how much of an impact that's had on quality or anything.

I've got a unit right now that is essentially unused, immaculate.  Think it's a model 522 without looking, but it takes AA's, and has the steel gaurd on the outside.  No use for it, just sits on a shelf in my safe.  Anybody want it for $250?
