Adding color to a black rifle
« on: September 10, 2010, 02:19:31 PM »
I saw some pics of AR-15s that people colored in the logo as well as the Fire/Safe notations on the lower.  My first reaction was that it looked interesting and different, but wasn't sure if I would want it to look like that for the remainder of it's useful life.  Being able to visually see if it is in "safe" or "fire" mode seems practical, but making the Bushmaster logo fire-engine red seemed a bit too much.
Any opinions pro or con on tattooing a black rifle?  Michael, if you do, should it coordinate with the coffee maker hanging off the rail?

Well that depends.  If the coffee maker is on the opposite side of the color wheel from the bottle opener then ya might want to opt for a more neutral color.

;)

I can't imagine that it would give your position away.  If you want to go for it.  Besides doesn't Spike Tactical have a Red Spider they put on their rifles?

Tom, that's a nice rifle. I don't think you have to worry about "giving your position away" with that one. 8)

I can see red, green, white, or other hi-viz stuff being an individual choice. Just keep that crap off my AK, and my Sig556, and I will do fine.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

You can buy a "China Marker" from Midway in different colors and highlight indented engraving any way you like. They also sell "Bonanza Gold & Silver" engraving kits to do much the same. I've used both and they work well. I have a Remington 1100 Trap Shotgun I inlaid the engraving on the side of the receiver with Bonanza Silver back in 1972, and it still looks like the day I did it.   Bill T.
