Glock 26, or 27?
« on: September 17, 2010, 03:28:15 AM »
I'm looking for a carry/pocket gun with a little more oomph. I really like the mini-Glocks, but can't decide on caliber. I also like the LCR, but maybe there are better choices I haven't considered. What do you like?

Been carrying a G27 for 6 years now, and have no complaints. It is way more accurate than it should be and conceals fairly well. I give it top praise, and that's saying a lot from a guy who hated the looks and feel of a Glock. I never met a Glock of any shape that either fit my hand or impressed me with accuracy (and I tried).... until the G27...it just works for me. I can't see me ever buying another Glock, but I like this one.

I ended up with the 27 by default because that's all they had in stock and I needed a smaller gun than a 1911 at the time (for deeper concealment), so I went with it. I would have liked the .45 acp model but they were on back-order. With 10 rounds of Cor-Bon 165gr JHP +P's in the gun and a spare mag, I do not feel lacking in firepower.

All that said, you would be served well by either the 26 or 27. I've never been a fan of 9mm in any shape or form, but there are plenty of top ammo brands that will get the job done in that caliber these days.

I prefer my 1911 Commander, but the extra weight makes a difference sometimes.....and with my bad hips and knees, the lighter G27 is appreciated.

If you want a Glock those little guns are great. My SIL carries a G26 off duty. I have shot it several times and it is as accurate as any pistol I've ever fired without optics. I agree with PegLeg that 9mm ammo will get the job done and the .40 might be a little less accurate due to recoil. On the other hand if you're not worried about that, just go ahead and get the G30 with (I think) 10 rounds of .45acp, or if that's a problem the G36 has less, but it's a single stack and thinner in the grip.

Peg has it nailed with his comments.  I have carried a 27 for about a dozen years, fired thousands of rounds through it, and never had a performance issue except one failure to feed with some Wolf ammo.  Just one.  Recently, I changed my concealed carry to a Rossi .357 snubbie.  It's a little smaller that the 27 and conceals a little better.  I put a couple of boxes of ammo through it earlier this week and managed a respectable cluster in the black at 21', so I believe it will do the job.  I do not plan to trade or sell my Glock, and I will still carry it when the situation demands greater fire power.  IMHO, .40 is a better round than 9mm.  Reduced accuracy due to greater recoil does not appear to be a real issue.  The 27 is one of the most accurate handguns  have fired.  It is ugly.  But you don't buy personal protection because it's pretty.

I have  a G26 The reasoning was easy.
I'm already feeding a 9mm handguns so why start stocking 40 S&W?

I shot the DTI advance qualifier with a G27 and had no problems with it.

I believe you mean more readily available shots (greater capacity) than more firepower. ;)

I own a G26 and have had zero issues. I changed out the recoil spring assembly to a stainless steel unit and use G19 mag with grip adapters to increase mag capacity. My ammo of choice is Winchester 9mm Ranger SXT 147 Grain loads. My gun isnt picky but that is the ammo I bet my life on.

I voted other, not because I have an opinion on a certain "other" but the XD and M&P sub-compacts are options.  Also the LCP and the various S&W snubs.  I plan to try the G, S&W and SA soon and maybe pick another CCW .  A person could go broke testing all the options at a range that has a big selection, especially since they usually require you to buy factory ammo from them to test out range guns.

JMHOFWIW

PS:  I presently carry an LCP, S&W 642 and or a Colt LW Officers ACP

Thanks guys! Good stuff. It sounds like I need at least one of each and some I hadn't thought of.

Being in CA, I don't get to consider CCW very often, but my parents moved to UT and I have a permit there. I finally got to break in the permit and found that most of my choices were just a little big for summer in UT, or my CA wardrobe was what wasn't accommodating. That was my first experience carrying CCW legally and I was wondering if anyone else feels uncomfortable walking into a convenience store that has police inside, while carrying. I really felt like a newbie, but avoided doing a pat-check. …and talk about a State that allows you to carry virtually anywhere!
