One of the leading developers of the WWII new "jet technology" was Heinkel. An amazing creator, and it was only timing of Allied ass kicking, that kept Germany from developing the next generation of combat aircraft, they were very close.
The V1, and V2, were terror weapons, but if we would not have cut production and implementation, via bombing the crap out their production facilities, the war "could" have had a different outcome.
The Germans have, and still continue, to build good stuff. Patton himself remarked "A fine waste of great infantry" as he did his duty and beat Rommel at his own game.
The Panzer, Tiger, 109 aircraft, Bismarck, and many others were far ahead of the curve back than. Thankfully, Allied resolve and sacrifice stopped it. But what a leap warfare took because of the German engineering.
Oh, and yes, as a Mauser owner, I know why Remington and Weatherby COPY it's bolt action....
