Moly Paste....?
« on: September 21, 2010, 11:04:27 AM »
I had a small jar of moly paste that I had for years. Some how I have lost or miplaced it. When I whent to the local hardware store all I could find was moly grease. It doesn't look the same, the past I had was grey in color and what they had at the store was black. Does any one know if it's the same stuff?

Moly grease and Moly Paste are not the exact same thing. They have the same moly disulfide base, but with different adhesion/bonding agents and properties. The paste is more for extreme pressure lube/anti-seize use while the grease is more for general lube purposes.

Anything like this?

Used this stuff on bike parts like swing-arms and packing bushings:

That looks like the same kind of container, I searched several supliers but didn't think about brownells. I use it to lube the slides or bolts on guns that I don't shoot very much when I clean them.

Thanks for the info,

Good deal. I used buckets of the stuff where I used to work to lube high pressure bearing surfaces and never thought to use it on my bolts in rifles.

I use action magic 2 from brownell's very good stuff, and Syl Glide which is not moly, but ptfe paste we use for treating brake pads, I believe Brian Enos sells it under another name. Can be bought at a lot of Car parts stores. Very slick stuff, when will put up with tremendous heat.
