More to the point, I wonder why they didn't catch this? It seems like something that would show up on computer models before they built the first one and would certainly be apparent in test firings. This just seems weird.

Just got to this thread, and the first post brought to mind that this is the perfect law enforcement gun - There was a period around here where law enforcement would throw things rather than shoot unless they were actually being shot at.  This gun did the throwing for them  ;D

Sounds like S&W fell into the modern production trap of relying too heavily on computer modeling and releasing stuff too quick.  Hopefully they can get this corrected, but regardless of what they do the Bodyguard name is damaged goods forever!

Of the dozen or so Bodyguard pistols we have sold this is the only one I have seen come back with a problem.  We also had one problem with a Bodyguard revolver.  The firing pin would back-off the primer just a bit when stuck.  Instead of the primer having an innie strike mark it had an outie.  As a result the cylinder froze.  Again, just one so far.

That is very bad news for Smith. I am somewhat surprised by the pistol problem. Still, up until the M@P their pistols have never lit the world on fire. But a revolver? Since the demise of Colt, Smith has been the caddy of revolvers. You'd think they wouldn't introduce a new one until it was tested to death and then some. If they devalue their rep in this area even a little they'll have a hell of time convincing folks why they shouldn't save $200 and buy a Taurus or Ruger instead.

2 bum guns ( with differant defects ) from one shop totals how many nation wide ?
I agree this will be a kick in the nuts for S&W.

Go with the volume of units sold, vs, the units with a problem. Yes hard earned money for a defensive pistol "should" have zero issues, but sh** happens in new designs, and it's not just S&W. I know folks that have sent back Kahr's, Sig's and even a "G" gun.

Based on sales, I'm guessing their still putting the numbers behind the decimal point. Until there is a recall, like another "top shelf" pistol maker is issued, this is still pending. The numbers aren't there "yet", and hopefully won't be.

S&W at least is wearing a cup.. :-\

We'll see.... My co-worker hasn't shot his yet. I wanted to get a Kel-tec, Walther PPK/S, S&W Bodyguard, match up. My KT, is still my daily carry companion.

True, I'm curious to hear if other Dealers like "Moreguns", GUNS - R - US, etc have similar experiences.
