Hypothetically speaking, if one wished to make a BB gun quieter, using a standard water bottle, or a baby bottle nipple, or a bit of pvc pipe and steel wool..... Well these are VERY BAD THINGS. None of us would do them, even if they didn't involve a firearm or violate the spirit of the law. As a purely hypothetical exercise, how would one proceed? Just askin'.

You can tape a 2L soda bottle on to a 1911, tape the slide so it won't move and it will be very quiet.  for one shot anyways.


It should be noted that your taxs paid for that training.

I would use a rubber plug slid over the barrel that fit the top of the water bottle then hose clamp it to the muzzle.
However, that works (one shot ) on .22's but does your air gun have the power to punch through the plastic bottle and still have enough energy to actually do anything ?

If I wanted a silencer on a BB gun I'd buy a Gamo airgun with a silencer already in place. Runs a couple hundred if I remember correctly.

They work exactly the same.  They are really not to diffrent from mufflers.  Slightly diffrent baffle design and size, but other wise they are the same.

I have one of these, http://www.airforceairguns.com/talonss.html  in .22, and in stock config, it has a 12" barrel with a 20" shroud, they are pretty quiet, I opted for the 24" barrel, and it is loud, 30 grn pellets being sent by 3,000 psi air, makes noise, but man is it accurate, so to answer your question, BB guns should not really make noise, as they are usually spring guns, at 200-300 fps. unless like me you have a Drozd, co2 is around 1,000 psi, and expands when released and makes noise.

Now I used to help in the international running game matches, .22 rf, rifles, and it was allowable to use what is called a bloop tube, a long tube on the end of the barrel, no insulation, just a pipe, and it was used for 2 reasons, one was weight to steady the muzzle, the other was it could be used to increase sight radius, by product, QUIETER,  so me, I would go for the pvc option, cheap, lots of sizes and adapters to get real close to what ever diameter you have.

Now sound suppression devices are illegal, period, without permit, even on air guns.

Back years ago when I used to paintball in HI, we used to have a PVC tube with holes along it, brillo pads, o-rings and another pvc tube sitting over that one. It would certainly cut down on the sound of the paintball comming out of the end of the gun. The only problem is when one broke in the tube and having to pull it off to clean everything took a little extra time. As for the Gamo air guns with that silly silencer on the end, I use one on a sudo regular basis and all I can say is that if it is working, I would hate to hear it with out it. I find it's quite loud and almost wish it didn't have it on there except for the extra forward weight.

Speaking of hypothetical .22 2 liter silencers, did anyone watch Swamp People last week?  One of the guys made the shooter shot--100 yards standing in a small johnboat with a .22 within an inch.  Well, almost--he was probably an inch and a half.
