Look folks, I went to UT. I probably spent more time in the Perry Castenda library than any of my girfriends' homes. If I offended I apologize for the offence. However, this thing was a victimless crime. No one got shot. You will note, I have never joked about VT or Ft. Hood and would never do so. It just seemed like the only way to respond short of screaming about it.

On a more positive note, and something we can usefully discuss, is the way the school handled it. Apparently having learned from VT, they sent out loud speaker warnings, text messages, and e-mail. Everyone knew to get the hell out of dodge. Its also not clear this guy was a psycho. There was  apparently a second guy. Maybe an accomplice, maybe our shooter was gunning for someone over a drug deal, or a love triangle etc.,  and had no intention of going postal. My maybe inappropriate joke aside, the issue of CCW for students and faculty as well as how schools do and should respond to these things seem important. Badger, BJC JC, please relax. My comment isn't worth getting pissed over. Its best I just apologize and let us move on to more important stuff.

In the update it says 4 shots were fired, but witnesses said 8 to 10 "short bursts" were heard. thats the problem with the media reporting things before they know all the details. Locally we had two fires in empty houses. the fire chief told a reporter that the cause had yet to be determined. That night the news said we had two arsons that were being investigated. When he called to have them change the story they told him it was old news now anyway (he called the next morning). If the media did there job and reported facts the world would be a better place.

JC is a good guy, he was trying to be helpful. He is neither an idiot nor an A hole (just flat wrong on occasion, but who isn't?). He was trying to welcome you aboard with a piece of advice. Apaprently, a less subtle approach is required. I'm stil glad you're here and hope you stay, but let me paraphrase what JC, myself and several others have tried to say.

FQ, not throwing stones, saying you were wrong, or defending anyone on either side of the fence here.....just a casual observation: It was probably the 15 word 'Whitman' part (and the fact that folks were killed back then) that tweaked a few feathers.....that's all......

Like I said, not bashing anyone......the initial comment doesn't bother me one way or the other........just my opinion on why some may get bent out of shape......FWIW.

 I was not going to comment, since it's the first one of these that hasn't involved me in a while.
But once post counts started getting thrown around, I figured I'd weigh in.
BJC's comment that FQ's post was "inappropriate" shows all the intellectual content as saying water is wet.
Calling some one an azzhole is no biggie, I do it all the time. (Frequently FQ )
But I have to agree with JC in that if you are going to be adamant about your rights, it goes both ways and it means ALL your rights.
The Concept of "Hate speech" the BS line that prompted "Political Correctness" is a violation of your very thoughts by trying to remove certain words or concepts from "polite" conversation.
By removing them from conversation people tend to think of them less and the way the interact with the world is subtly effected.
If you add mindless slop like "Reality" shows, and flooding the news with drunk bimbo's in Hollywood ?
It's almost as good as individual "Brainwashing".
I celebrate the inappropriateness of FQ's post.
And I laughed when I read it.
PS Charles Whitman, like Lee Harvey Oswald, was a Marine, and the PMI's at PI and San Diego do not view them in the same light that you do. They disregard the target identity, They disregard the circumstances, they consider only the specifics of the shots, angle, range etc. And they are proud of them.
