Working up a college class....or what have I gotten myself into?

My name is Roy Hill.

I'm a college English instructor, a freelance journalist, a rifle team coach, and a CCW instructor.

I'm looking for some help and advice.

I wrote an email at work that contained the email equivalent of "thinking out loud" and now I find myself tasked with developing an Outdoor media class for my college.

The place where I teach is right in the middle of rich hunting and fishing territory. There are several outdoors-related companies and manufacturers locally. The gun culture is very much in effect here. I coach a college rifle team, afterall.

This is a great opportunity, and a daunting task, all rolled into one.

I feel confident about journalistic writing, as I've done that for 19 years, for a variety of publications.

What I don't feel confident about is video, digital media, blogging.

Can anyone recommend specific books, websites, online tutorials, video series that I can use to learn more about doing online digital media things, specifically video and audio?

Hell man, the only time I tried use the web for a class, it lasted all of two weeks. The "time saving" idea of communicating by email and chatrooms took up more of my time than just meeting with students. I just parked myself at a bar and grill just off campus for two hours a week and offered free beer and nachos for those who stopped by. It cost me a few bucks, but damn it was easier.
FQ13 who is very much a luddite. As I told my advisor, I read and I write. I don't draw pictures, I don't do math, and I'm damn sure not using my computer for anything other than typing, looking at porn or playing Halo.

Are any of your students ccw or rifle, also taking Media or communication or film making? I would go to them 1st, and then if not ask if any of their compadres are, and are comfortable around guns and might lend a hand. I don't know what you intend, but the video part has never been easier or less expensive for the quality you get now, not to mention how to post and edit.
