Headed To Bridgeport, CT, For A Work Project,... Advice, Tips?
« on: October 04, 2010, 06:12:55 PM »
Well, I'm off to the heart of "Yankee-ville", for a week to 10 days, to work at Derektor Shipyards, Mystic Harbor, CT, on the M/Y Cakewalk. A 300' American made yacht nearing completion. Leaving Wed.

I'll have my laptop, but no pistols.... :-[

Any advice from N.E. members on where to stay, where to go? What to see? Pubs, Taverns, Antique Shops, Brothels?

Geez, I'll have to get out my long sleeve crap, jackets, and jeans!!! :o

Kind of a last minute thing, but it's a valuable client, and it's good work.

Thanks for any advice.

tw

TW..

You going to Bridgeport or Mystic?  There is a big difference between the two.  Bridgeport is closer to NY City and Mystic is on the southeast coast of CT, nearer to Rhode Island.

If it is in fact Mystic area, you should visit the Mystic Seaport Museum, the SS Nautilus in Groton near the sub base and any number of other interesting things in the SE CT area.  I only live about 10 minutes from Mystic myself but I'm going to be awful busy over the next couple of weeks.  PM me regardless.

Hotels are in abundance in the Mystic area very near the harbor and seaport area.  From pricey to not so pricey and there are restaurants all over the place.  Bars are not something I can recommend after all these years but there are several.

No advice, but all the best wishes for a safe trip and some spare time to enjoy the trip when not hard at work.

Thanks Peg. I guess it's good to see some Fall Foliage, and crisp nights....(I've missed them)..

Wow....

That looks like the Big Time for sure, TW...

Will be nice to have been some part of getting it going.

I see there is an Owners Deck....I guess if you can afford a ship like that, you are gonna have more than a cabin or suite for yourself.

At 281 (85.6m) feet and 2,950 tons, this Cakewalk surpasses her four predecessors in size and is the largest yacht built in the U.S. since the 1930s, and possibly the biggest ever built in the States when measured by volume.

Impressive addition to the ol' resume'.....big thumbs up, TW...along with a very cool.

Amen! It would probably take our combined life savings to pay the crew to fill the tanks and start the engines without leaving the harbor. That is a scary amount of money afloat. You done good TW.
