Hog and zombie thumpin' machine
« on: October 06, 2010, 07:08:08 AM »
Check goes out on Friday and hopefully will pick it up from the FFL next week.  Hogs and zombies?  Is there a difference?

Unfired, NIB 1895GBL in .45-70.  I liked the SBL version but 1) they are scarce, 2) they are expensive and 3) this one is prettier (to me).  Former owner added the winged XS rear sight which I like a lot.  Wadda ya think...add a XS scout rail for a low powered scope?

Plus I needed a .45 caliber weapon this year for my 45th birthday.

Excellent purchase!  .45-70 supplies a whole lotta love lead.  Heavy and slow, kinda like getting hit by a garbage truck rather than a crotch rocket.  Zombies / hogs beware!!!

I have one of the 45/70 guide guns with xs ghost ring sights and I really like it, good choice. I have thought about adding a Leupold scout scope from time to time, but enjoy your new toy.

I would not mount a scope, but I would snag the rifle in a heartbeat  ;D

Nice rifle, KPR!  I am thinking of putting a scout scope on my lever gun but my eyes stink.  If you can see I would say leave the scope off.

I am drooling! That there is a sweet rig. As far as the scope goes? If you go that route, I'd forgo glass and get an eo-tech. Its a short range gun and quick acquistion and a visible sight woud seem to trump precision here. But that's just me. Heck, I might just leave on the irons, though if money wasn't an issue I'd like something in a ghost ring with tru-glow or the like just because my eyes aren't what they used to be.

I'll give you what you paid for it and a little more so you can find a SBL since you seem to want one and I seem to want the one you have and don't want/need to look for myself.  LOL

Nice boomer, KPR.
I don't know your hunting area set-up (distance wise and kill-zone) but IMHO, for quick hog work at short ranges (75 yds and less) no glass needed. If your ranges are farther out, then a fixed power around the 3x to 4x range with a larger (30mm) tube would do well for that gun.

Congrats on the rifle.
