My dads friend uses simplegreen to clean all his firearms. I not sure what to make of this but he swears by it.

I don't know about using them on firearms but the stuff is THE best degreaser I've ever seen short of an acid vat.

Simplegreen is Ammonia free and I have used it on Black Powder guns...never had any problems with it other than that unique smell it leaves behind.

Simple Green us used and recommended by professional gunsmiths who do AGI's videos.

Bob Dunlap, in particular, strongly recommends it after 35 years of gunsmithing and using every kind of compound.  He says it doesn't hurt his hands, smell bad, needs to be used in ventilation and does a better job than any other product he has tried.  Fairly inexpensive too.

And who doesn't want their guns to smell fresh and clean?  Do you also spray your ammo with Fabreeze?LOL

My concern would be this: if it leaves behind a scent, it has left a residue.  That residue scent may be indicative of some degreaser remaining on the metal.  That, in Crusader's world, would not be a good thing as it could prevent lubricant from adhering to critical areas.  Besides, I really like the smell of Hoppes. (FWIW)

Do not use Simple Green on aluminum parts. It changes the molecular structure of the aluminum.
That's why the have a special blend for "Aircraft" use.

+1  DO NOT use on aluminum.  But for steel and poly it is the best I have found.

I have a friend who sprayed "Pam" on his compensator of his open gun.   After he fired his first stage at an indoor match the place smelled like french fries.   

Not saying that was a bad thing.   Just weird.

Pam is recommended to be used on the underside of new lawnmowers to keep grass and such from sticking.  I can see where it might be useful in keeping a comp. clean.

 I already stole the ex wifes Nail polish for my front sight,
Nail polish remover for "undoing super glue, and emory boards for sanding boards
If I go back for kitchen stuff she may press charges.
