Discreet rifle case for AK pattern rifle
« on: October 13, 2010, 04:26:36 PM »
I am looking for a discreet case that will carry my Saiga rifle.  I don't have the money to spend for a high end setup.
I would like to use a large shabby duffle, but Wisconsin law is kind of vague in this reguard, so I want to get a purpose built rifle case to make sure I don't run into a legal problem.
Some that I have looked at on the internet:
http://www.opticsplanet.com/product-catalog/products/leapers-homeland-security-kis-38-covert-gun-case-pvc-kis38b2.html ($20ish
http://www.opticsplanet.com/product-catalog/products/leapers-homeland-security-covert-gun-case-38-pvc-mc38b.html ($50)
http://www.opticsplanet.net/bulldog-cases-extreme-rectangle-discreet-assault-rifle-case-black-bd470.html ($45)
http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/CASE509-6.html  ($20)  ACE case
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/winchester-tactical-rifle-case.aspx?a=606349 ($40) Winchester

I think it would be nice to be able to throw one of these into the case: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ZAA024-1.html  (ACE CASE 6 mag pouch) I would only use if for 2 or 3 mags, and the other pouches for misc. other items.  Might be to wide for any of these cases though?
If anybody has experience with any of these products, or alternatives I would love to hear from you.
Thanks...

those that you listed aren't very discreet. I would suggest a large backpack or something similar to that.

I would love to use something that is not a rifle case, but the WI law talks about transporting firearms in an "appropriate" case.  My preference would be for a large ratty looking duffle bag, but I don't want to get in trouble over a vague technicality.  So I will try to do the best I can, working within this constraint.

By a gun case that you like, don't worry about how discrete it is.  Stick the gun in the case.  Stick the case in the large ratty dufflebag.  A little more complicated, but it meets both you needs.

Go for something along this line.   Find one with a top cover.  plenty of room for mags and accessories.

I believe cheaperthandirt.com has a "drag bag" that might work. Doesn't look like a rifle case. has room, and loops for attachments, etc,.."Discreet"?  Outside of a Cello case,.... ::)

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/MOLLE183-7.html

I like this one:

Discreet being the key word,....practicality, function, and cost should work more.

Lots of options.

That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

I bet you could get a paded camera bag, that would work great.

Lots of pockets, heavyly padded...etc
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

I think i'm gonna go with one of the rectangular 38" cases and paste some music company stickers onto it.   Might be more of a target to get ripped off, but it will mostly be out of sight in the trunk.  They look enough like a guitar bag that I could probably walk around anywhere without anybody looking past the Fender Guitar, Blue Steel strings and the like.  I even play guitar, and have a couple at home.  And it is still a purpose built rifle case, I don't think a few well placed stickers could make Wicsonsin law deem it not an "appropriate" case for a firearm.
I'll think about it some more, and eventually post pictures of what I finally come up with.

MB was talking about a rifle case made to look like a guitar case about a month ago.  Can't remember the maker, but I was thinking about getting one

Sounds like WiShooter is on the right track with the Guitar related stickers on a simple rectangular case.
